Anyone ever go to Broadway plays be it on Broadway or one of their national tours?

My wife and I are going to our first one tonight. Sweet Charity, starring Molly Ringwald...I wanted to go to Spamalot but the wife got her way. I hope its good because at $75 a ticket its not exactly cheap.

The Producers & The Lion King are coming this summer as well, so if we enjoy tonights show we will probably go again.

There is a place in NY off of Times Square you can get discounted tickets. I think it is called Hot Tix. You go in the morning on the day you want to see a show. We saw History Boys and Sweeney Todd last summer for 45-50% off.

Spamalot is a great show.

I saw "The Wedding Singer" on Broadway last summer. I would love to hit some more shows when I go next.

We used the same service Mulli talked about. It is pretty fun waiting with a bunch of tourists and stuff.

I'd love to see Wedding Singer too but it isn't on the schedule for Memphis this year..closest it gets is St Louis I think.

Sweet Charity was a lot of fun. Molly Ringwald is a pretty good singer but an average dancer at best...the show overall was entertaining and you could tell the crowd really enjoyed it.

Broadway sucks. Its like Hollywood now. SO much money on the line, artistic ingenuity and creative force have given way to sure things and retreads. The interesting stuff happens off broadway. Avenue Q and Urinetown are two great examples.

Isn't Avenue Q a Broadway show?

Loved Spamalot. I was afraid it would be the movie canned on stage, but it was brilliant. The show I was there for is unique as well; the castle got caught in the clouds, and the actors improved for about 10 minutes. Great stuff.

Ave. Q started off broadway but made its way there, so its good to see that some originality still has a chance. But only after it proves itself. The stuff that premiers on Broadway, jebus I cant remember the last time I heard of something interesting. Spamalot's a good example, but still not a truly unique idea. Its a retread, just packaged up to look new. DOesnt mean it sucks, its just not anything to get fired up about.

I saw The Lion King in Philadelphia and it was absolutely fabulous. Definitely worth checking out. The set and costumes are amazing.

Broadway isn't Hollywood, I was just there and the cast members are still down to Earth and are still happy to have people support them

The premise is the same. Theres so much money on the line, no one is willing to take an artistic risk. They just churn out remakes and adaptations and more remakes. Its BORING. Just like Hollywood.

So you might not be suprised to hear that "Legally Blonde" is being made into a Broadway show.

on the run from johnny law... ain't no trip to cle
Saw a play in London a long time ago, which was fun. Went to the road production of Les Miserables and it was great.

we were just in london a couple of months ago and got to see les miserables, spamalot (starring tim curry who is really short, which for some reason surprised me) and chicago. the first two were fantastic, but chicago bit big time.

i've seen a bunch of the broadway tours when they hit gammage. they're all usually entertaining, but the two that stand out for me are urinetown (hilarious) and wicked. the girl that played the lead in wicked was just the stand in, but she was phenomenal. easily the best performance i've seen in a musical.

Wow, so many shows I've seen I can't remember some of them. The first one I saw with an official "date" was the original Evita with Patti Lupone and I still have the original PlayBill with her on the cover. To this day it remains my favorite musical.

When I was little (about 11 or 12) an older cousin of mine would take us to B'way and we used to sneak into the shows during intermission and stand in the back. I do remember seeing West Side Story - I was mesmerized!

Then, of course, I made the mistake once of seeing a West End show in London right after coming in from a trans-atlantic flight. I saw the first act, then slept thru the rest of the show. I'm pretty sure it was Chess.
I also saw a musical in London with David Cassidy - wish I could remember the name of it, LoL!

I remember seing Grease in Singapore - not quite up to the standards of USA shows, that's for sure!

Well all I can say is my wife and I both had a good time at our first show. She is even considering Spamalot as my Valentines present and she hates Monty Python...we are just waiting for our schedules to be hashed out for that time before we purchase the tickets.

Eric Idle signed my Spamalot program.

If anyone is interested I recommend the Broadway Palms Theatre in Mesa. They do a first rate production of the major Broadway plays, things like Cats, Guys and Dolls, Miss Saigon and Buddy. I couldn't believe how well done they were. It is a dinner theatre so you get food as well. Great night out with the wife or family.
