Third-string quarterbacks are people, too!
The Denver Broncos tweeted a thank-you message to four of their departing free agents last week. Cornerback Tremon Smith, linebacker Cody Barton, running back Javonte Williams and punter Riley Dixon received a thank you note from Denver's official Twitter/X page, but quarterback Zach Wilson was omitted.
We initially thought that might be because Wilson -- unlike the four other players -- did not play a single down for the Broncos as he was inactive all 17 weeks last fall. It seems more likely in hindsight that Denver was actually just waiting for Wilson's departure to become official.
After Wilson officially signed his contract with the Miami Dolphins on Monday, the Broncos quote-tweeted Miami's post with a thank you graphic for their former QB:
Wilson did not see the field in any regular season games in Denver, but he was a good friend and helpful mentor for starting quarterback Bo Nix. The Broncos will now move forward with Nix as QB1 and Jarrett Stidham as QB2 while Wilson gets a fresh start in Florida.
