Yes, and despite all the bad reviews I heard about, this was pretty enjoyable I thought.

Some interesting moments concerning theology and religion in the movie too, which was kind of cool.

Although I have yet to hear a positive review for this film...it did $70.5 million over the weekend.

(HSX halted it at $135 and it will adjust to $70.5(*2.5) - ugh, wish I had it :D Coulda made MILLIONS)

Actually, Boxofficemojo has it estimated to do $86 million, including Monday...where did you see these final numbers? It still has Monday to do yet.

86 million would be a crazy adjust, and yes, I have it :)

Thanks for spreading the news. :D

The investment I suggested isn't doing so bad either, with a much better roi and potential for future earnings.

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones - $80,027,814
Austin Powers in Goldmember - $73,071,188
The Lost World: Jurassic Park - $72,132,785
The Mummy Returns - $68139,035
Rush Hour 2 - $67,408,222
Pearl Harbor - $59,078,912

My point is that a big opening weekend does not necessarily a good movie make. :)

Hey Renz, nice list.

If you like movies, you should sign up for HSX and post your username for the rest of us to add you to our group-list.

Be careful, it's addictive.

BTW: I own 5 of these on DVD (not an Austin Powers' fan). I hope you weren't saying that all on the list were bad movies... If you were saying that...what is a "good movie" to you?

You're never online in the afternoons, your loss :)

Also, I think paying $108k to earn $3.7 million is about as good a ROI as you can get.

I think he's just trying to be argumentative. It's a message board, after all. :D

By that statement, it's clear you do not understand ROI.

Nice gain though.

Much better than your advice on the Matrix: Reloaded. :D

Seriously, I really like the first Austin Powers, but I haven't seen the next two. My bro hated the first, but loved Goldmember.

Liked the first Mummy, but wasn't wild about the second. Maybe I should see it again.

All the Jurassic Parks seem like the same movie. The first was by far the best IMO.

Didn't see either Rush Hour. Do you recommend? Be warned that I'm not a big Chris Tucker fan.

Didn't like Pearl Harbor at all. Other than the battle scenes.

I didn't see Attack of the Clones because, and I may get ripped for this, I haven't liked a Star Wars movie since Empire Strikes Back. Return of the Jedi was too hokey and they ripped off the same plot as the first (4th) episode. Ewoks? Another Death Star? Weak I thought.

Jar Jar Binks. Need I say more. Thought Amidala was uninteresting. Droid army looked very unthreatening.

I saw some scenes of the young Annikin (sp?) and he seemed like such a weenie that I don't know how anyone could believe he would become Darth Vader. I guess I should see it and then judge, but like I said, I haven't really liked Star Wars since 1981 or whenever.

Getting back to my post, I was just pointing out that a lot of movies make big bucks because of outside factors like competition, weather etc. Whether the movie is really good or bad is not always the deciding factor. As I am sure you movie buffs all ready knew.

Actually, you can probably trace the success and failure of movies today to one major thing--marketing. The best movies never make any money, and the ones that stink do.

Yeah, well maybe I don't understand BIM's idea of what ROI means, but considering I'm at $44 million now, and you're around $28, I think that your understanding of the word hasn't helped you much.

:)

Mike
PS. I'm at $19 million in YTD now...be careful, or it may be passing your REG port soon :)

I don't think you can say NEVER for best movies, but I would admit it probably happens a lot.

Mikey, chill, I wasn't slamming you.

I obviously know you're ahead of me in the game (although you never fail to pat yourself on the backski :D ). That still doesn't change the definition of ROI.

I was just pointing out that you didn't make the $3.whatever million on $108k, as you said, but whatever it actually took to buy 50,000 shares at $135. The "purchase price - commish" is your investment. And you did make a nice return on it.

Sorry Brian, I guess I read your post wrong, took it obviously the wrong way.

Still, I think my ROI was pretty good :)

Back to the subject, I enjoyed Bruce Almighty, but still thought it could have been a lot better. I enjoyed Liar, Liar much more. The scene in Almighty with the other news anchor was hilarious. Many of the other funny parts were in the trailers.

As for HSX, I was without a PC for Thursday and Friday and could not cash in on $4 million gain that it presented. Bummer.

No doubt, this definitely helped launch Carell's career.
