Bruce Arians: Deone Bucannon trying to be too perfect

“[Deone has] only got one problem — He is so much a perfectionist,” Arians said, via the team’s website. “It is paralysis by analysis right now because he wants to do everything just perfect. Even Tyrann [Mathieu] told him, ‘Just play.’ You can’t play perfect all the time. But you do love that about him.”

Mathieu isn’t the only Cardinals defensive back advising Bucannon. He is also getting tips from Jefferson and cornerbacks Patrick Peterson and Antonio Cromartie, saying that “you’d be dumb to fail, honestly,” with so much support on hand to get him ready for the season.

Not a big deal yet either. According to NFL.com only 9 first round picks have signed so far and none in the 24 to 29 range yet.

Why is that? Aren't the rookie contracts standard across the boards based on round now? Must be little details in the contract.

His agent is waiting for some of the players around him in the draft to get signed so they can hopefully get more leverage in the guaranteed portion of the contract.

Well that's a lot better than Arians coming out and saying "Well he does ok whatever he does is good enough I guess" lol

I will reserve judgement until I see him guarding TE's down the seam.

I've been excited since we took him. He was fantastic last year, his physical stats are perfect for us, his attitude as well, hard working, down-to-earth guy. He will be a serious contributor in his first season. Of that I have no doubt

Nah, I want the other safety running the seam, I want him clocking the TE after the catch to jar the ball loose and set the tone.

This is coaches speak for the very reason he wasn't a first round grade.

Isn't instinctive
Bites too hard on the fake
Always out of position

Here is a comment from ROTB site that made a lot of sense to me.

"Four stages of any skill

1: unconscious incompetence
2: conscious incompetence
3: conscious competence
4: unconscious competence

Bucannon sounds like he is conscious of his mistakes and consciously doing the right thing, so passing from stage 2 to stage 3.

I was not bothered when BA said he was undergoing ‘paralysis by analysis’ – because to me it was clear the stages he may have been going through, and also different people have different learning styles. I’m also a very cerebral sports person – love the theory, learn as much as I can, continuous learning on the field, and after a year or two things become second nature."

I agree Brandon. I think he was the best SS in the draft that fits our system.
