Glad this has passed. It would have been crappy had he been really sick.

Man, I've had diverticulitis, it's no fun whatsoever. I've been hospitalized twice from it... once for 13 days.
Minor bouts with it can be handled by antibiotics but it generally gets worse over time. No warning signs,
all of a sudden it's there and you're doubled over in pain.

If it's not chronic he should be fine. Even if it is there are meds to keep it in check. I have colitis which is chronic. Diagnosed at 25 & was extremely painful when I first had it. I weighed 140lbs & would eat like a horse & not gain weight. Once I got the right meds it went in remission & I've had no major issues since.

I've had a few bouts myself. The 1st one hospitalized me for almost a week. He'll need to change his diet & lose some weight. He'll have to cut back on the hard liquor until he gets it under control.

People with stomach or intestinal issues should eliminate wheat from their diet. Gluten is often the trigger for IBS, clolitis, reflux, diver,....etc. Gluten causes inflamation in the body and may show up evenually in everyone in some form of disease associated from inflamation.
I had stomach and intestinal issues for years and was checked out by doctors more than I care to mention only to be put on meds and sent home. I did my own research after I heard of celiac disease and the same symptoms I was experiencing. I learned wheat gluten was often the cause of the symptoms. I eliminated ALL wheat from my diet and havent taken a med or experienced any problems since. This was 10 years ago.

Interesting. My mother had a bout of this as well about a year ago. She made some dietary changes (nothing too extreme) and has been fine ever since (she turns 79 next month).

What's also interesting is that I have Celiac Disease, but am the only one in my family who has it.

In my case, I had to go the extreme route and have a sigmoid colectomy. They cut about 8 inches of colon out and sewed it back together. Took several months to heal and get back to normal but I'm fine now. I was lucky, didn't have to have the bag, even temporarily. I wouldn't wish colon surgery on anyone.... Well, maybe Jeff Fisher or Petey Carroll ... J/K
