Jul. 8, 2005 12:00 AM Get a double dose of fun from actor Bruce Campbell as he meets fans, signs copies of his books and hosts screenings of his latest cinematic "masterpiece,"
Man With the Screaming Brain, at Harkins Centerpoint 11 on Wednesday. Here are three reasons to meet the reigning king of B-movies.
1
ACTOR - Campbell is best known as Ash, the chainsaw-armed hero of Sam Raimi's campy
Evil Dead movies. But he has also made a splash on TV, starring in the cult classic
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. as well as playing Autolycus in both
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and
Xena: Warrior Princess. He made a hilarious cameo in
Spider-Man 2 as the snooty usher who won't let Peter Parker into a play.
2
AUTHOR - Campbell's cult success repeated in the literary world with his autobiography
If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor (L.A. Weekly Books, 2002). He hopes to repeat that success with
Make Love! The Bruce Campbell Way (Thomas Dunne Books, 2005), an "autobiographical novel" about his quest to escape B-movies and get a part in a Mike Nichols romantic comedy.
3
DIRECTOR - He completes his creative trilogy this year with
Man With the Screaming Brain, which he also wrote and stars in. Campbell has directed episodes of
Hercules and
Xena in the past, but
Screaming Brain is his feature-length debut.
DETAILS: Signings are 6 and 8 p.m. and screenings are 7:45 and 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Harkins Centerpoint 11, Mill Avenue and University Drive, Tempe. Tickets for the signing are free with the purchase of
