I’d say it’s logical to assume plenty of instances of DV are not reported to LE. I was in no way referring to the reporting of instances to LE.

If you are referring to state agencies underreporting, I’d say you (and the original poster I quoted) are very wrong. LE doesn’t have discretion when an act of DV occurs- they can’t simply fill out a 35 card and walk away- essentially somebody must go to jail.

A state agency “underreporting” DV is akin to a contractor failing to invoice for services performed; not saying it hasn’t happened, but extremely rare when it does. The state receives federal monie$, which are kicked out/back to the agencies. NFW agencies are missing out on those opportunities as the OP surmised.

My point is that perpetrators of domestic violence are rarely punished, for a variety of reasons:

I will respectfully say this article has an agenda attached (it’s called funding).

Unfortunately, when the federal government creates financial incentives, it opens the door for unscrupulous and dishonest activities. It was seen during COVID- many businesses received exorbitant pandemic monies that didn’t need them (IMO), while other business were choked out; hospitals were caught “checking the box” deaths unrelated to COVID.

Perhaps there have been instances where the police/agencies/the courts failed to do the “right thing,” but my experience (retired public safety) says this is way more exception than the norm. Most of the time an arrest is made on the spot just based on an allegation, regardless of any physical evidence or corroborating witnesses. This is why I’m not shocked when people (“dudes”) get off as FACTS come out later.

Ad hominem.

Completely unrelated to the topic at hand, and mostly false.

Anecdotal.

I think we need to sign or trade for a better backup QB. Tune looks better but not quite number 2. He should take that step up in another year. Ridder didn’t show enough in three games to be third string. We need to find a pass rusher somehow.
Tune with the starters could be solid for 3 games if needed. It is very difficult to evaluate his performance when he is playing against starters with his second stringers. I could see him managing 3 games with a lot of running plays. :)

1 – I realize that this column will be outdated tomorrow. Oh well, can’t win them all.

2 – If you think this game was irrelevant, keep in mind that many of the players will end up playing one, two or many significant snaps for your favorite team. They might very well be the deciding factor between a win or loss in a certain game. Many of them will be signed to the Cards’ practice squad, and from there they will have many chances to fight their way onto the game roster, and then we are back to my first point.

3 – Cam Thomas have been great the last two preseason games. Yes, I wrote that. Dominating.

4 – I like that several players have stepped up in two or three preseason games. “Everyone” can have a great game, but showing it repeatedly is what separate players.

5 – Xavier Weaver looks likely to make the final roster. Because of the stupid suspension to Zay Jones (come on, Goodell, show a little faith in the legal system instead of always thinking that you can do everything better) there is obviously room for an additional WR on the roster. Not only does Weaver return kicks, but he clearly has abilities in the passing game. Supposedly he also had a great training camp.

6 – I am not sure if either Tune or Ridder have shown enough to be Plan B. Rumors has it that they will sign a new guy (look out for a trade for Jacoby Brissett, if Ossenfort can get the prize down far enough).

7 – The first half was another tough, tough experience for Christian Jones, but he got a lot better in the second half where he was moved to the left side.

8 – Jesse Luketa have look good in all three games. Coupled with his great special teams ability, that could earn him a roster spot.

9 – If Ossenfort picks up someone cut from another team, which position group will it be at? I am going with defensive line, but in reality, I think it is difficult to find that many open spots overall.

10 – I think that edge rusher Chris Garrett makes the team. He flashed on several plays, and being the reigning UFL Special Teams Player of the Year should open a door for him. By the way, take notice that he got a contract with more than league minimum salary. That is pretty rare and could give a little signal.

11 – Jon Gaines looks lost out there.

12 – DT Naquan Jones have done some good things this preseason. Him and Phil Hoskins showed some promise and could be practice squad-options.

13 – Darren Hall reminds me of Dre Kirkpatrick in the sense that he is so fun to watch. He wins some, he loses some, but he gives his all on every play. I really like him.

14 – Andre Baccellia is another one of my guys. He has impressed for three games straight.

15 – I dream that Ossenfort can trade one or more fringe players for late round picks. But I am also a draft nerd, so go figure.
3 Only tough against 2nd & 3rd string
11 lost cause
14 keep if possible. Good possession guy

Nah, I guess the Chiefs saw the same as me.
A guy who is hanging on by a thread at the back of the roster?

Thomas had 355 regular season snaps on the defense last season that only totaled in 13 tackles and 9 assists. Maybe he is a better fit for the defense that the Chiefs run but he was just a guy here.

Yes. General managers are obsessed with draft picks. They don't just throw out one if they see a guy who can only produce against backups and backup's backups. Every team already have those guys on their own roster.

Well I'm not sure that a future 7th round pick for a team like the Chiefs is very valuable. They probably had a decent grade on Thomas coming out of the draft so were willing to give him a try in their system. Being at the bottom of the waiver wire clearly the didn't feel comfortable that 30 other teams would pass on him. All it takes is one and there are plenty of bad teams with holes left to fill.

According to reports the Chiefs liked Thomas's ability to play inside and outside on the DL in a backup capacity. The Cardinals were looking for him to play as an edge player which guys like Luketa and VD were equivalent or better players to him. You mentioned that Thomas had a Dominating preseason and I think that is what Harry was commenting on. Yes Thomas had a strong preseason against guys who are no longer in this league. However where was that production when the games counted last season?

I think it is certain that Brett Veach do value a 7th round pick, as all other front office-guys, and I think that they used it on Thomas for the exact reason you write about. Because they see something in him, and that has probably been re-affirmed this preseason. :)

Again, I have never heard about a general manager that just throws draft picks away.
