The reason I posted an opposite story was to illustrate the fact that you can make up lots of stories to go with the known facts. This is how Johnny Cochran talked a jury into believing OJ was innocent.

That's the thing though. I mean, I really didn't know that much about the OJ trial, so to simply guess he was guilty would be kind of presumtuous of me, but let's say he was. The thing is, OJ, who never had the clean image that Kobe had, still was anxious enough after the murder that he left trails of his own blood around the crime scene. Why would Kobe, who has never committed a crime before in his life, be able to rape a girl and then simply relax with a special nightcap feature of 2 Weeks Notice? I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying it seems extremely unlikely.

Cameron explaining why O.J. Simpson was turned down for the role of the Terminator:

"People wouldn’t have believed a nice guy like O.J. playing the part of a ruthless killer." :) "

Saw this somewhere, found it pretty amusing...

Well since we all know what the evidence is....

There's a difference between committing a crime and actually being caught for it.

Well, what are you saying? Are you trying to say that maybe when Kobe was younger he stole a Milky Way in his pants pocket because he didn't have 50 cents with him and was really hungry, or are you saying that Kobe has gone around raping girls since he was 18 years old, and this is the first time somebody's actually come out with the evidence?

Let's put it this way: Kobe's never been charged with a crime before, and when you rape somebody, you normally have a good idea that you might be charged with one. Just to clear up any confusion, I wouldn't know, but I can use my imagination. And it really doesn't matter if it's hardcore evidence. I understand that the fact that he ordered a movie doesn't prove his innocence, but none of us are looking to convict him or get him off here, that's what his lawyers are for. I'm just putting forth this point so the guys on this board can have a better understanding of Kobe's guilt or innocence before the trial finishes, which could possibly be 6 months from now.

For the record though, Chap, are you just playing Devil's Advocate here, or do you really feel strongly about this case either way? I mean sometimes it's good to just not agree with somebody simply to raise questions that otherwise would not be raised. But I'm just wondering, because everything I say, you seem to come and negate it. I could say, "Kobe's innocent because he wouldn't do anything wrong if there is a blue sky." and you'd say, "Kobe could be colorblind, meaning the blue sky actually might look green to him."

I note Chap doesn't need anyone to speak for him, but I believe he is playing devil's advocate. It's the same thing I was doing earlier in this thread. We are just trying to show that it doesn't really matter what you think you know about Kobe Bryant. We'll have to wait until the trial to get a better idea of the evidence in the case.

Exactly, thank you Joe.

I don't really know what happened, I've decided to reserve judgement until the evidence is presented--and I feel I've portrayed that throughout this (and others) thread.

Do I think he's guilty? I don't know. Do I think he's innocent? I don't know. But I'm not about to put a halo over his head because of the way the media has portrayed him. Do I think he's capable of doing it? Because he committed adultery, I'm more apt to say yes, but again, I'd like to know the evidence.

His adultery and his choice of movie (if he did indeed order the movie 2 Weeks Notice) can both be held against him as examples of poor judgement. :D

The thing is, OJ, who never had the clean image that Kobe had

Simpson had a fantastic image. He was a sunny spokesman for Hertz (among others), graciously leaping over chairs in order to serve customers. And no one had a problem seeing him as Leslie Nielsen's goofy sidekick in the "Naked Gun" movies.

If anything, Simpson's image was better than Bryant's before his "alleged" crime.

Also:

There are lots and lots of guys out there who don't even know what rape is. At the college where I work, there's a mandatory sexual-conduct orientation meeting for all new students, where the basic topic is, "No means no." It's clear that a lot of the students already know this, but it's also clear that many of them don't. They aren't trying to be macho, it's just that they honestly, legitimately, really don't get it. If you talk to them a little bit afterward, it becomes even more clear.

In other words, it's entirely possible to rape someone and not know it. Maybe that's what Bryant did.

Maybe we need to invent a new word for "NO," since it sounds too much like "OH" or "GO" or "WHOA" and other words a woman might say when aroused. ;)

By the end of the trial we'll all know Kobe better than we ever wanted to.

Most of these million dollar atheletes lead personal lives that would make a porn star blush. We never hear the specifics but we will if Kobe was involved in any of that kind of thing.

This is reminscent of Phil Taylor's comment, "If Bryant did do what his accuser says he did, it was probably because he thought she was one of the women who wanted him but didn't know it yet."
