Spending more money on the WR position is a waste of money and should be used elsewhere. It is time to just let him go.

Until the ground game gets off the ground so to speak, the passing offense is really the only offense the Cardinals have. Any weakening of it, even slightly, is not a good thing IMO. Of course, the money has to be reasonable.

BJ's not coming back for 2 mill/year.No way. Why would he? This does kind of put humor to the trade values of BJ that used to be thrown around here. I remember some thinking we could get 1st,2nd, or 3rd round picks for him :biglaugh:. He's been out there for over a week and still no one's hot and heavy to sign him.

The advantage to B.J. is that its one less position to fill in the crap-shoot draft, and wide receivers are a real crap shoot in the draft. At the right price, 1.5 to 2 million per year, I'd bring him back. $2 million is my upper limit....

4 years. 4-5 million in signing bonus

2008 vet minimum
2009 1.2 million
2010 1.5 million

Besides both Kurt and Matt want him back. That carries some weight with me.

If there is any position on the field that I have any confidence in Graves' drafting ability, it would be WR.

Which is why you spend more resources on the run game or defense not a #3 WR. Signing a #3 WR that will not play much now that Wiz has his guy Tuman to start useing the 2 TE sets more often is even more of a waste. As years go on in the Wiz regime the pass game and especially the #3 WR will become even less significant. Would rather spend any money that would go to BJ for more depth on D which we desperatly need right now.

Don't forget about Steve Breaston...He could be a good number 3 WR or we could draft one.

What evidence in college or from last season indicates that Breaston could be a good no. 3?

(What I saw was a guy who has problems beating the press; runs poor routes and catches with his body. He needs a hell of alot of work before he can even aspire to being a no. 3 in the this league.)

How about ranking 5th ALL TIME at Michigan for catches. As for the flaws you pointed out those are all things he can and will work on during the post season which I'm sure he has worked on them during the post and pre season. What better 3rd WR is on our team right now? Merrit,Morey,Urban? if not Breaston then who?

Let's also remind ourselves that any receiver we have, they have two pretty good guys ahead of him that can teach him alot. From what I know of Breaston, he does run poor routes, but that can be worked on this offseason. He was a rookie last year and wasn't thought of to be a #3 because of BJ. He was brought in to be a returner, which he has done excellently. He's a burner and if he works on his route running this offseason, he could be the guy we need to stretch the field. He can't possibly be worse at catching than BJ.

If he was an elite pass reciever in college, given his return abilities, he would have been a first day pick in the draft.

if not Breaston then whom?

Well, I'm hoping BJ comes back... because the thought of Breaston stepping as a no. 2, if Quan or Fitz go down scares me.

Breaston would probably contribute as much as BJ did, once one of those went down.

Really! how could you know that?

In 2006, by the way - BJ was targetted 75 times and had 4 drops, one of the best ratios in the NFL.

P.S. let's not get into the usual he "dropped one the end zone, etc." We all know the failings, but they are simply not as bad as some believe, and would like others to believe.

Johnson will never get a shot to amount to his first round status if he stays here. For his sake, he should go elsewhere and prove whether he was worth a first round pick or not.

I would contend that he is a solid #3 receiver, who can play the #2 WR in a pinch. I think he will be a disappointment as a #2 WR elsewhere. In Arizona, with the pro-bowlers in front of him, he gets the chance to exploit the opponent's #3 defender and will rarely see double-teams.

Come back B.J. Learn the lesson of Az Hakim!

That's true, but Johnson was never really able to produce when Quan for Fitz went down. So what's the difference?

I think we'll flex Pope out on sets with 3 wides. He's a better matchup problem for opposing defenses.

The draft is history. All players need to contribute--draft status matters not on the field.

I don't think he is worth it unless he comes back for like $1.5 Million. I say pick up a speedster like Eddie Royal in the 3rd round. He will be much cheaper and you will finally have a true deep threat.

Drafting offensive players in two out of the first three rounds is going to do a lot to staunch the bleeding on our 27th-ranked scoring defense.

Yup. Im betting that 4 out of 7 picks are on D minimum could be 5.

We have to. We have some silly amount like 16 defensive players signed to a contract.

It would still be a waste of money. Becuase you would still have another pro bowl WR playing for you. Not to mention you can say, "well if so and so goes down" for every single position, which is why you have to pick on choice which positions are more important to you. With 2 pro bowlers at WR already WR is at the bottom or should be at the bottom of the list.

Adding to an already big time talent pool at WR even if one does go down you still have another pro bowler playing, or adding to much higher positions in much more dire straights?

Agree. However if the price is right bring him back.
