It was reported in USA Today that Bud Selig's salary for 2007 was in excess of 14 million. In addition he had over $400,000 put into his 401K and had an extensive expensive and travel account. Is he or the Commissioner of the NFL worth anywhere near this much money? I think not. Actually I would do it for $120,000 a year and $40,000 in my 401K plus travel. I do not think this requires you to be a rocket scientist. Someone please explain to me the rationale for paying this kind of mnoney. You could take many Head Coaches who could do this job for $4 mil a year and do it just as well. Our world is upside down.

There is a connection in that Commisssioners of Baseball and Football are overpaid. More so than Larry Fitzgerald but nothing is made of it. Why? It cost us as fans increased ticket prices and calls into question how we come up with these salaries. You could easily find very competent people who could do these jobs for haff or less of the salary.Apparently the good ole boy network is at work.

He needs to restructure that. Give him 20 mil guaranteed, and base salaries of 4 mil. for 5 years. By the time the deal is up he will have driven baseball below hockey in popularity in the US.

Every CEO of every major corporation is grossly overpaid.Just because it's the NFL of MLB doesn't mean they should be different. They ought to have a salary cap for CEO's.

Actually, according to a study that Gambo and Ash talked about. Hockey was third behind MLB and the NFL. The NBA was fourth. Ratings do not always mean popularity.

One 620 this morning, they said there were 280 MLB employees that work in the MLB offices that totaled like 80 million in salaries. That does not count umpires.

i don't begrudge them one bit. You're right,if they can get somebody to pay them,more power to them. I'm saying they are all grossly overpaid. There's no need to pay someone that kind of money. But that's the way things are.

But to say we are forced to spend money on baseball games and other forms of entertainment is ludicrous. I mean, you could go to a park and entertain yourself for free, why not do that? Oh, because you prefer to entertain yourself with baseball. That there corsts money, but nobody forces you to spend it.

I wasn't talking about myself, as much as our society.

American people spend alot of money to be entertained. And in today's world of stress -- at home, on the job, in retirement -- it's understandable.

So we really have no control over Bud Selig's salary. And if the only answer is to abstain from following Major League baseball, for example, I don't believe that is going to change anything. It just won't happen.

But there are caps on how much you can contribute to a 401K. Depending on your age it's somewhere around $50,000 for you and your employer combined.
