After the season before free agency. Salaries are only going one way - up. Do it as early as possible.
Yes I'm not sure but I believe they have to wait until the new League year starts March 12th the same day as the beginning of free agency. Not sure when they can begin negotiations? But they have time he's still under contract for next year.

The luck is being in the right place at the right time.

Budda is mostly playing in the box, his opportunities for interceptions are very few.
So what you are saying is Baker is a quasi linebacker who plays deeper than normal and not really a safety which would account for his number of tackles.

what i think the contract will look like:

a good portion of the cap hit will be against this year's cap

structured so that after 2026, the team can move on without serious cap ramifications

said diff: probably a two year deal

I'm all good with this. Do they move Jalen?
I don’t think he’s tradable but a post 6/1 release is a big plus cap-wise and offsets some of Baker’s money. Rabbit is a true ballhawk and should mesh nicely with the developing CBs. Likely pick up a vet backup of a late round draftee.

Please. They are not cutting Thompson to create cap space. As if we are going to be such huge spenders in free agency we will need a paltry few million to sign draft picks.

I was worried about some fall-off from Budda Baker because of his age, frame and play-style, but he has put together yet another dominant season. Dude is a unicorn and the heart of the defense. The lucrative extension was well deserved.

Yes. That is what I am saying.

And he is damn good at it.

Budda's average tackle this week was made 7.5 yards downfield. Tackles are great, but if they're not accompanied by a single pass breakup (NOT ONE! -- He has three passes defensed THE ENTIRE SEASON), I don't really understand what we're doing here.

Pay him; we have too much money already, but Cards State Media pumping up Budda Baker with 0 INTs and 0 forced fumbles in 2024 is peak lipstick on a pig.

My feeling too. I'm glad we resigned him as he's playing well but it's a huge overspend for me.

$18m per for Kyzir White+ level tackling and bottom 3rd ball skills is a huge misallocation of resources.
