I didn't think it was a horrible call. I thought the refs giving them a timeout was whack though.

Oh well we win!!

They actually ended up giving us the timeout, sine they no longer had it to stop the clock when we got the ball back.

Not a horrible call. There was contact after 5 yards. Horrible rule maybe, not horrible call.

My problem with it was they did not call the same type of play about 8 times and then call it when it is so crucial late. Plus, I think the contact had nothing to do with the outcome of the play and should've been not called for that reason as well.

I mean, if they had called about 5 to 8 more illegal contacts, holds earlier then I would agree with you. But they didn't.

You mean we don't get the benefit of the doubt with the refs?

Gates could have been called for pushing off as well. But then they missed a more blatant contact penalty on our winning drive. If you're going to enforce the rules, enforce them for both teams.

as a rule, I almost NEVER complain about calls, but that one almost sent me through the roof in my house.

I was more pissed about the no-call facemask on Ellington that resulted n Cards having to settle for the FG.

And DILFER's stupid ass complaining about the forceful face smack and twist to Palmer's dome via Corey Liguet.

That is why I was so upset the San Diego secondary was getting away with that type of contact all night

Here's a clip from TMQ saying the Cards won on a bad officiating call...remember Easterbrook calls the Cards the Cactus Wrens...

Arizona's college-themed winning touchdown came with 2:32 remaining and the Cactus Wrens on the Bolts' 13. The call was the "smoke" variation of the hitch screen -- wide receiver John Brown stepped backward as blockers went downfield in front of him, then took a sideways pass and skedaddled to the end zone. Nice play, but the smoke variation of the hitch screen, which is legal in the NCAA, isn't legal in the NFL. In college an offensive lineman may be downfield if the pass is caught behind the line of scrimmage; in the NFL, that's not the case. Arizona left tackle Jared Veldheer was downfield before Brown made the catch. It wasn't exactly the sequel to the Fail Mary, but once again, a "Monday Night Football" contest was decided by a late bad officiating call.

I just watched it again. No way would ineligible man downfield called on that play.

Don't shoot the messenger... I just enjoy his column strictly for its entertainment value.

Does they write The Onion-esque satire? I'm not familiar with it. Doesn't look like I want to be.

I think its great stuff. Very entertaining.... Like his unified theory of 'creep' where the american people are subjected to Christmas hype before Halloween. Lots of great NFL tactics and weekly game breakdowns, etc...

Give it a try once... ESPN site Gregg easterbrooke, TMQ or Tuesday morning QB
