11th in the NFL in adjusted success rate last season. Unless you think that luminaries like Josh Norman (CAR) and E.J. Gaines (STL) are going to repeat their success, I think that Patrick Peterson's job as a top cornerback is pretty secure.

This is the last time I'm going to talk to you about this topic.

You must be registered for see images attach

A "top cornerback" or the CB that has the biggest contract out of all other CBs does not give up 8 TDs in a single season, who also led the league in penalties too as a DB I believe.

I really expected better from you because I know you're one of the main people to point out the flaws on this team, but not the one who is the most overpaid on the team. That's just really surprising.

I'll humor you, DVontel, what team would he not start for?

Seahawks
Jets
Broncos

Basically, any team with a top tier CB1 and a decent CB2.

I want you to humor me, Austin Zonie, please tell me how Peterson has been worthy enough to be called a "top cornerback" with HIS play as a CORNERBACK the last 2 years? Not a return-man, a CORNERBACK.
Giving up 22 TDs the past TWO seasons(Leads the league in that category) is not top cornerback worthy.

But hey, I guess I'm a troll because I see what I see on the field, and don't overrate someone just because where they were picked in the draft, their athleticism, and what they used to do good at a different position.

You guys are assuming I'm a troll but y'all are not proving me wrong. Why is that?

I'd disagree with the three you listed.

Jets? Would he not start over Cro? He played #1 as Cro was #2 just last year. Why was Cro not covering the opposing #1 WR while on the same team as PP?

Seahawks? Job duties of a CB are much different with Cam Chancellor and Earl Thomas. PP wouldn't start over Cary Williams? The same Cary Williams that was cut in the offseason by the Eagles? You may have a hard time finding any takers for that argument.

Chris Harris is a good DB. Over the last two years, PP and Harris have the same number of INTs (6). PP has a defensive TD, Harris does not. Harris is better in 2014 on passes defended, but the same in 2013. If you go back to 2012, then PP jumps Harris in passes defended. All this while PP is covering opposing #1s and Harris has not. That can dramatically skew these stats.

Tough to measure CBs in a vacuum as they are asked to do different things depending on scheme. 2014 was the worst year of PP's career. He's admitted to not being 100%. If he repeats 2014 in 2015, then you start to worry.

I do think if Cro was the #1 CB, he would have done a better job than PP21, but that's just my opinion. Yes, he did have a bad game against Denver, but it didn't pile up to the amount of bad games Peterson had last year.

Replace Seahawks with the Chargers, I totally forgot Cary was with them not, but PP21 did play just as bad as him last season. Actually, he did worse.

I just hate PP21 acts like he's a big shot as a CB but not having the results on the field to back it up.

DVontel, at the end of the day PP is a star, and more importantly our star. I don't know how long you've been watching Cardinal football, but have you assessed the long list of trash, and one year fixes that we've thrown at that position in our existence? I'm not saying he's completely above reproach, but you're not convincing any one in here he's garbage. I'm as hard as anyone on PP. Yes last year was un-damn-acceptable, but we know what that man is capable of, and I'm fully optimistic that he's gonna come back with a vengeance this year. Too much at stake for him to not.

Could both views be correct?

Peterson is overrated as a CB, but he still would start for all 32 teams.

LOL. Cro's play on Demaryius Thomas was epically bad. Cro had a number of stinkers himself and he wasn't consistently matched up against the top receiver.

Peterson's play on Dez Bryant was textbook.

The Chargers have 2 better corners? Patrick Robinson? He might be the Cardinals THIRD corner if he was on the Cardinals depth chart.

Grasping at straws bruh.

You mean holding Megatron to 59 yards, Dez to 15 yards, and marginalizing a number of other WRs is not production?

No one's questioning that Peterson could've had a better year (and his blood sugar issues certainly didn't help), but if you're arguing that he's anything short of a top-tier CB, you either don't understand his role in the defense, don't understand the CB position, or have some sort of personal vendetta against him; almost as if he slept with your wife.

Don't forget--4 pro bowls in 4 seasons, at 2 positions. How many NFL players can say that?

You've been proven wrong time and time again, you just don't want to admit that your issues with Peterson are more personal than professional.

I'm not a mod, but I've seen newbie posters get banned for lesser forms of trolling.

Cro was complete garbage towards the end of the season, and reporters have implied that he was more focused on the offseason than the playoffs.

yup. Not a fan. Anyone who lets people run by because he is scared to tackle can go play for someone else.

So did Brandon Flowers & Jason Verrett move to another team or something?

Numbers don't lie. Peterson gave up the most TDs by any CB in the LEAGUE last season. Not just divsion or conference, the entire LEAGUE.

I watched the entire game. Peterson blanketed Bryant and tackled him right away when he caught the ball. Textbook.

Absurd. Mentioning Verrett in the same breath as Peterson is absurd. Verrett has done nothing in the NFL; he has played in 6 games with 4 starts, 19 tackles, and one interception. Trying to say Verrett is better than Peterson is the most ******** argument I've seen on this website in years. Thank you good sir for a laugh.

Brandon Flowers is possibly better, but that is a stretch as well...

So scratch the Chargers off the list as well, unless you want to come back at on how Verrett's six games played have shown that he is clearly better than a four time Pro Bowler.

I just find it really odd how this board defends a guy who gave up the most TDs(22) in the past 2 years out of any CB in the NFL. Especially the highest paid one.

And stop bringing up the Pro-Bowl like that means anything. Matthew Stafford & Andy Dalton were just pro-bowlers.

Took a road trip and was at that game. Weeden sucks big time. I had to hold by breath a few times as WR's ran open down filed. Still think PP21 is a very good DB. He played hurt as some have said as well as covering the number 1 most of the time. I would bet money he plays better this year. That is if I had it.

On top of four pro bowls in four years, which is a rare feat for any NFL player, he also has two all-pro seasons under his belt.

But please, continue to enlighten us about how horrible he is.

He's horrible as a CB, but not horrible as a player.

If that make sense.
