It's hard to imagine Hornacek was not interested in the Iowa State job. I'm wondering how it played out behind closed doors.

Really? Its an NBA job vs a job at a middling college program. There is no comparison, even if it is his alma mater. And I think what we've heard is exactly how it played out. He declined to interview and that was the end of it.

Hornacek better have an assurance that the Suns are going to negotiate a new, longer and more lucrative contract with him. Otherwise he might get hit by the door on the way out. However, I do not think Hornacek would have a problem finding another NBA coaching job.

I doubt any coach expects to last the term of his contract. Hornacek has been around quite a while and he's not stupid. Nearly any NBA head coach's destiny is to be fired, usually sooner rather than later.

Well put. You didn't say . . . head coaching job.

Jeff has shown that he is too much of a nice guy to be the guy at the top. Or to put it another way, not enough of an SOB.

Remember Cotton's description of Jeff as an NBA player. He reminded him of his paper boy. The wisdom of Cotton continues after his passing.

This is true but Jeff is has only been a head coach for two seasons. He will be in the last year of his contract this coming season. I expect the Suns to step up and give him a new contract soon, a vote of confidence. If not, it doesn't look so good going forward.

I do not like Hornacek's two PG offense but I am not ready to pass judgement just yet. It does appear he had some discipline issues this past season.

In his first season he was a few votes short of coach of the year. Now? Not even qualified, I guess?

And this season they were just below .500 with a roster that most here seem to think is a trash heap.

Coaching a group of instant millionaires who are competing with each other for playing time and recognition takes a certain skill.

Sadly, Jeff did not pass the eye test this past season.

In evaluating the player management skills of a Head Coach, it is incomplete to overlook that as part of his evaluation.

I loved Jeff as a player. But he is a Head Coach now. It is a different situation.

If one were to entertain the idea that Tom Thibodeau would consider coaching the Suns, there is a another reason why he likely would not be hired... money. I can't see Sarver investing huge dollars in a head coach. This is a huge stumbling block to improvement.

IMO, investing money in a head coach and more scouting is the way to go.

This is an area the Suns need to desperately upgrade and revamp. Take guys from the Warriors staff and overpay them to come here. Seriously, guys like Curry, Thompson, Barnes, Green, etc were all drafted by the Warriors themselves in the last 6 years.
