It was stated on the show this week (and yes, I listen to the show habitually), that Steve Keim has agents calling up the Cardinals and trying to sell the Cardinals the players they represent.

........

Wow! That is a long way off from having to over pay players to get them in the front door.

Keim has absolutely done exactly those things that Michael had hoped for in making this a destination place for smart, hard working, and talented players in this league. That would appear to only continue so long as Michael, BA, and SK continue as the management triumvirate of this franchise.

“The culture has really shifted,” Keim said. “Just going back three years ago in my first year as a GM versus now, the amount of calls that I get from agents that are recruiting us to talk to their players. That was the goal in mind three years ago when we set this thing in place.”
Also, A-dub recruiting for the team.
Evan Mathis is the most recent example. The Pro Bowl guard contemplated retirement after winning the Super Bowl with the Broncos, but was drawn to the opportunity in Arizona. He only wanted to join a contender, and after a little coaxing from longtime friend and current Cardinals scout Adrian Wilson, he signed a one-year deal.
“(Wilson) just truly believes in this organization and where it’s headed,” Mathis said. “He made me a believer in that, but I had already seen what this team had been doing. Then seeing somebody from behind the scenes, who had that same mentality, that they’re just all in and they’re ready to win, it was kind of exciting.”

At the risk of being a Debbie Downer: It's an agents job to call teams and try to solicit interest in their clients.

What I have no doubt about: it wasn't so long ago that I am sure many players told their agent to cross Arizona off the list to start with, or only talk to AZ to serve as stalking horse.

At this point, I think the only thing working against the Cards is the general "way out on the west coast" thing that hurts all western teams.

I agree with most of your take, don't think I see the whole way out "way out west" thing . JMO a big majority of these players are coming out of high schools from Texas Florida California and I don't think most of them nessisarly prefer to play on the East Coast it's just where most of the teams are located due to population areas,. I don't think it effects a potential FA at all. And just me personally I would look at warm weather places if I were a FA.

I have been saying for years (since beforw the stadium was built) that these arent the same old Cardinals. As soon as the vote passed they changed. I have been saying that they are a perinial playoff team. I felt that they were, with out a doubt, in the top half of franchises as far as how well they were run and how successful they would be.

That being said, they have raised the bar. Long gone are the days where we have to over pay to get players to come here. The days where we were considered "the armpit of the NFL". We have become a place where players around the league WANT to come. They have moved on to another level. I am impressed.

This was sent from my cell pjone so please excise any typeos or other errors.
