Yeah, I wouldn't want to touch Kobe. Untouchable is right.

Hey-O!!!

Is it wrong that when I read the thread title and saw you as last poster, that exact response popped into my head?

Marion is cap filler. The only acceptible talent in the offer is LB. I'd never do Kobe for LB and fillers. Sorry, guys.

Marion's cap relief and depending on how high that pick is (this deal won't happen until the Lakers are blown out of the first round again), it could be a good deal for a team completely rebuilding.

I don't think Marion is cap relief because he will not opt out, especially since LA sounds like the only team he likes.

You would have to expect Kobe would demand around the same value as KG:

Boston sent the Minnesota Timberwolves forwards Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes and Gerald Green, guard Sebastian Telfair and center Theo Ratliff, two first-round draft picks and cash considerations. Besides Ratliff, 34, the other four are 24 or younger.

This trade would be great for the Lakers if they could extend Marion at a reasonable rate AND the atl pick ends up a top 3 pick. They would be trading a great SG for three new starters (with two backups involved). ATL pick at PG, Bell/Barbs at SG, Marion at SF. Such a trade would be better than what the Wolves got for Garnett. Without the ATL pick being very high, it would not be a very exciting trade for the Lakers.

I would prefer the Lakers do not move Kobe because we know that they are merely an average team in the West and cannot get better without trading Kobe. Nash, Kobe, plus Amare would be pretty insane but the Suns would have poor depth.

he ain't getting moved until next summer, at which point, Marion will only have a year left on his deal, thus they get Barbs, and high draft pick and 17 million dollars in cap room, on top of cap room likely from Odom's contract running out. That gives the Lakers Barbs, a high draft pick, and a huge amount of cap space to completely rebuild.

I have to disagree with the kobe-kg comparison.

we are talking about McKale and Ainge working a deal, boston was desperate, and no other gm duo would pull the trigger on that deal.

If you are talking next year for a deal like that..then yea...we could talk.

Right now, no.

Ride or die. :D
