I admit I'm a bit of a purist who likes to see teams built, not bought, however don't think for one second that WS title wasn't worth every dime Jerry C. spent to build it.

Colangelo agrees, especially because it wasn't his money!

I'm sorry for whatever he did to your puppy but I still like and respect the guy. IMO, If he hadn't "bought" the championship Arizona would just be a nice place to watch minor league baseball.

Buy. For about 2-3 years (5 tops). Then Pujols' contract drags that team into the basement for the rest of the decade.

I agree. I really like the Angels owner so I was disappointed when they made this deal. I think it will be a huge weight to carry for many years and I was hoping that some other greedy owner would pay that price. I'm not even sure Pujols has 3 good years left.

Here's a thought: is 5-7 years of crippling budgets worth a World Series title now? The Angels must be betting that a title would be worth it.

As D-Back fans, we are uniquely suited to answer this question. After our title, we were in contract hell for years and swung from luckily good to abysmally bad. Only now are we truly emerging "clean" from the W.S.-era contracts. So, was it worth it? I'd say absolutely.

The answer is YES. Had that bottom of the 9th not happened it really would have sucked. We are just getting to the point of playing for a title again

Buy or Sell:

Yu Darvish will live up to his contract..

Sell - big time

$111 million (if you count $$$ spent for rights to negotiate) is a lot of money to spend on a pitcher who may struggle to be a suitable 3 or 4 in the rotation. With that kind of money, you should be getting consideration for Cy Young in the first year.

I have a feeling he is going to be Dice-K v 2.0, and teams will think twice before spending big money just for rights to talk to a Japanese prospect.

Dbacks win the NL West this year.

Buy

The Dodgers could make a strong push, but I think the most complete team in the division is Arizona.

In addition, the Giants failed to address their hitting woes, and getting Posey back is no guarantee their lineup will be any better than substandard.

Buy. Young enough that it will be good.
Plus AL so he can DH.

I second that. Unlike Pujols, he is young enough to make this work long term. Still, with Cabrera on the team, they need one of them playing in the field, which might not work out so well in the later years.

Cabera has four years left on his deal (at $86 million). He will be 32 when that runs out - I imagine he can play in the field until then, or Fielder, who is a year younger.

They are both defensive liabilities, so I guess they pick their poison and hope their offensive production makes up for it.
