Right ON! Let's add to that this frightening note:

A report last week in the Tampa Tribune said the Devil Rays had officials in Tucson evaluating three Diamondbacks prospects: outfielders Conor Jackson and Carlos Quentin, and shortstop Sergio Santos.

This week, Bob Gebhard, the Diamondbacks' special assistant to the general manager, was in Chicago at the Devil Rays-White Sox series.

The Diamondbacks could be taking a look at Devil Rays closer Danys Baez, who is believed to be available via trade.

JUST SAY NO!!!

They are just 4.5 games out....I'd hate to see them turn into sellers just now.

Good point, but at the same time where I don't want them to go in to Yard Sale Mode just yet, I damn sure don't want them pulling another Larry Andersen for Jeff Bagwell type deal either. If it comes down to losing the division or trading a top prospect for a fringe, middle of the pack player, I'd take the bullet.

Truthfully, the second Tampa asks/asked for Jackson, Quentin or Santos for Baez, I'd have hung up the damn phone.

We'd probably be sellers at this point if we had anything to sell. Estes pretty much negated any trade value he had by getting injured as it will be at the very least 2 weeks before he is throwing again. I highly doubt that any teams would be remotely interested in Cruz or Clayton, much less trade us anything of value. Tony Clark might get us something that resembles a pitching prospect with limited back-of-the-rotation potential, but we have plenty of those depth guys already. Vazquez is obviously our biggest chip, but Id rather not trade him. I think he can be a big part of our future, so I hope he wants to stay; I would rather not trade him at this deadline unless management gets an offer too good to pass up.

Since we have little to sell and arent too far back in this winable division, I would rather trade one or two lower-tiered prospects for a long reliever that wont cost that much.

I agree that we keep Vazquez due to he is the only pitcher we have in our oragnization that resembles an ace. Also he is reasonably locked up for the next three years. I say stick w/ what we have and go into the off season looking for replacements for Cruz, Clayton, Estes, and Ortiz. Maybe a pitch starved team trying to make a post season run might be willing to part with some mid level prospects in return.

The only problem is that Vasquez can leave AZ after this season due to either a contract clause or rule that says he has the right to leave since he was traded mid-contract. If he makes it clear he wants to stay, we keep him; otherwise, get something worthwhile in trade.

The STL series was bad enough, but now we drop a series to the freaking Reds?? Ugh!

Regardless, I will still be at Wrigley Field in three weeks watching a D'Backs-Cubs game from one of the overpriced-yet-great view dugout seats....whoo-hoo!

They're like 10-25 since the beginning of June.

I don't care what they do as long as they don't trade any of the top prospects.

10 days until the deadline and the DBacks are somehow only 5.5 games out. Anyone want to change their vote?

This is honestly a tough choice at this point because I view being 5 games out at the trading deadline as being in the race but I consider it the borderline. Right now by a small margin I'd say we're buyers. However if things don't improve soon I'd say we're sellers

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to examine trade options for both scenarios at this point

This team is not one or two players away from seriously contending, regardless of how far out of first they are. I say stay the same. If you could unload a bad contract or player like Cruz or Clayton then I say do it, but don't trade the farm or guys like Glaus or Green.

True, but they can get more for Glaus or Green.

I would try to get a reliever and CF like Joe G mentioned in the AzRep. The two I would target are Jorge Julio of the Orioles and Juan Pierre of the Marlins. Both have been rumored to be available. We would get arguably the fastest and best defensive CF in the game now and an above average RP in Julio. I would give up Cintron or Hairston and some low level prospects to get both.

So would the D-Backs. Unfortunately, the Marlins and O's would want no part of that deal.

If Cintron can play third base then they may be interested in him especially if they get rid of Lowell and maybe throw in a guy like Santos. Hairston could be very useful to the Orioles as a DH and maybe we can include Koyie Hill who could eventually replace Lopez at catcher.

:biglaugh: The Marlins didn't get all the good young talent they have by being that stupid! Hairston has yet to prove he can hit well in the bigs.

Besides, I think everyone in baseball believes we'll get so brain-fart frantic that they can pry CQ or CJ out of us. Reportedly we gave the Royals a big list of good prospects for one of their relievers, said, "Pick two" and they said no, Carlos Quentin or no deal. Tampa Bay supposedly has said pretty much the same thing.
