Don't be surprised if Troy Hambrick is released by the Arizona Cardinals in the coming months and isn't picked up by another team. He still has the skill to be a serviceable running back for a club in an injury pinch, and he might get a cursory look from whichever team that loses out on the Travis Henry sweepstakes. But Hambrick has earned himself a poor reputation since joining the Cardinals.

Coaches are furious over his absence at the team's "voluntary" offseason programs, especially with Marcel Shipp and rookie J.J. Arrington listed ahead of him on the depth chart. It's looking like Hambrick is going to get his walking papers in training camp.

IMO he earned that rep while in Dallas and has made it worse with each subsequent stop. Good riddance!

Unfortunate from the POV that we need depth at RB. But his attitude and actions towards OTA's have been flat out unacceptable. If he has a valid excuse for missing OTA's, fine. But from everything we have heard, he doesn't.

Fortunatley there are other guys avaliable to fill the #3. Tyrone Wheatly is a guy that comes to mind.

I doubt we'll pick somebody else up if Hambrick is cut. Hambrick is the power- back in our RB trio and the easiest to replace since we got two good FBs. With JJ here and and Shipp back my guess is that Hambrick would get 10% of the carries anyway. I don't see why Femi couldn't fill that role.

Only problem is if JJ or Shipp goes down with injury.

i would like to have him at the goal line, but if our 3rd string rb has an attitude like he's something special screw 'em get his arse on the first train outta here. denny won't put up with that. hodgins or feme would both be more than adequate in short yardage situations or wheatley if he's available cheaply.

Good point about the FB's. Femi would be fine as the 'power back'.

Aside from all the other pros and cons surrounding Hambrick's absence is the fact that, faced with intensified competition from Shipp and Arrington, he still didn't feel the urgency to show up and compete.

I still want a 3rd RB brought in if Hambrick is cut.

Anderson, Scobey, Croom do absolutely nothing fo me. Shipp is coming off a major injury and wears down late in the season every year anyways, JJ is a rookie, Obafemi is fine and all as a short yardage back, but you dont want him to have to be a spot starter or get a bulk of carries.

I would feel much better with a guy like Wheatley or Amos Zereoue, waiting in the wings other then the other guys we got after Hambrick.

Hell I'd just give Stacey Mack a call. Mack didn't play at all last year, reportedly he worked out for 5 teams last year but his weight was near 250 instead of 235-240 and nobody signed him. Mack was of course signed to start for the Texans but the emergence of Domanick Davis cost him his job.

Mack never was as good as I thought, but healthy and in shape he's still a very good short yardage RB. He's been out of the NFL for a full season so I would assume if he still wants to play, he'd be pretty hungry.

Yup, that's the problem. Femi will do fine if he just have to take Hambrick's usual carries. However, if Shipp or JJ goes down, he's not the answer.

Zereoue would be a good replacement for that 3rd spot.

He isnt the greatest runner, averaging just 3.8 yards last year, and pretty small at 205 lbs, but he makes up for it by being a really good reciever out of the backfield, averaging about 40 catches a year the last 3 years as a backup.

Give him reps in practice and now we wouldn't have to cut him and we could get a bruiser for short yardage that oppponents aren't expecting. We line him up in front of Shipp on 3 & 1 and give him the rock on a short off tackle.

What are the cap ramifications of Hammy's contract, or is there none?

joeshmo's cap spreadsheet is one of the "stickies" at the top of the page. He signed with a bonus of 130K, that's what we would have to eat.

Best idea I've seen on here and he's already in camp. He could take Hambrick's place in a NY minute.

As a short yardage back, maybe. Just becuase a guy is big doesnt make him any good in short yardage situations. So we shall see on Hodgins or Femi being the short yardage guy. They just might excell in that role, we just dont kow yet.

But that isnt really the point of it all. Hodgins or Femi may be able to carry the short yardage load, but neither can be counted on, nor should they be counted on as a 3rd RB and be asked to carry the ball on a regular basis as a #2 RB if JJ or Shipp go down. And with JJ being a rookie and Shipp being a injury risk every year there is a high likelyhood that one will go down for at least some time.

We may have another short yardage back on the roster, but we dont have a #3 RB when Hambrick gets cut.

Why havent the Damien Anderson Homers shown up yet to get on this conversation. I know there are some of you out there. :D ;)

Hambrick knew what was happening. He signed a new contract just this year. I hope he there is nothing wrongb with him except his lack of judgment. Having said that, for the teams sake he must go. I wish him well. He never really became a Cardinal. I too think we might need extra help at RB. We will see in camp how well Marcel does. If he is at 100% we are good. If not JJ the two FB's, Anderson, Scooby? Who backs up JJ to win a division title?

James Hodgins...pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase!

Has anybody watched him play. Get some tapes out.

He doesn't have a move in his body, and his catching out of the backfield is pathetic.

He's a lead blocker, that's it... that's all.

And even at that, his reputation in St-Louis certainly did not translate to the field in Arizona.

All he seemed to ever do was plug up the hole. In all my tapes from his one season in AZ, I can't isolate one block by Hodgins where he sent a LB on his butt, and he outweighed most Lbs by 30/35 lb.

I, for one - won't be surprised if he's cut: Hambrick or no Hambrick.

In Arizona it takes 90 seconds to get to a minute. In NY it's 37 seconds. :D

Whenever I see or hear the number "37" I think of Dante yelling it out in Clerks :D

A short yardage back doesn't use a lot of "moves" or do a lot of your so-called "catching" (witchcraft)!!

I agree. Anderson and Scobey have been hyped so much and really have done nothing. Croom is lucky to say he played in the NFL. The only way Scobey sticks is if he returns kicks and punts, and it seems like Green has brought in other people to test that role. I've been waiting for Anderson to break out for years, especially after that Carolina game, but for whatever reason, he just doesn't seem to get to that next level.
