Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but it has to be a positive sign that it is for 9 years.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, August 13, 2014

GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Arizona Coyotes Co-Owner, President and CEO Anthony LeBlanc announced today that the Coyotes and Arizona based Gila River Casinos have agreed to terms on a nine-year partnership agreement that includes the naming rights for Glendale Arena. The agreement is pending approval from Glendale City Council on September 9. If approved, the new name of the venue will be Gila River Arena. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Gila River Arena

The Coyotes and Gila River Tribe have reached an agreement to rename Jobing.com Arena to "Gila River Arena":

http://coyotes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=728348

I think thats great. Jobing.com was such a clunky, corporate sounding name. Gila River Arena sounds much more regional and like an actual place. Since the word "Casino" isn't in the title, it doesn't have that corporate awful ring to it.

So now we have 2 pro venues with good names:
Chase Field
Gila River Arena

And two clunkers
US Airways Center (though this should be changing soon)
University of Phoenix Stadium

So much better!

jobing.com sounded like the name of an Arena Football teams building.

Now if we could just get rid of the UofP. Love my Cards but that is the worst building sponsor in the NFL. Then again it coulda been the pink taco.

its always amused me that the Cardinals moved from the stadium of a real college to a stadium named for a pretend college.

There's a small slice of land near Kellis High School that the O'dam Indian tribe got in a land swap years back. Its been a very long, very contentious battle. Thankfully, it seems to be winding down and indeed Glendale will be getting the new hotel and casino, though sadly not nearly in time for this Super Bowl.

Contentious is a nice way to put it. ;)

I think they still have some Federal hurdles to overcome, but I would bet it's likely they prevail and build the casino.

LOL. It'll be funny hearing announcers say.

GILL-a River Arena

Instead of HEELA River Arena.

I think "gila" is easier than "jobing."

Every court decision thus far has gone with the tribe and recently Glendale finally threw in the towel and came to an agreement with the tribe. There still might be a hurdle or two to overcome but all the significant ones seem to have been put in the rearview mirror.

Crazy. Who needs Vegas anymore to gamble with all the available online sports/casino books out there? I guess a couple of games we don't have abs Vegas does is craps, roulette and baccarat. The casinos here have video craps and roulette now though.
