That's not a slap on the wrist at all. I figured he'd only get 2.
if that was the fine...that's a lot of money for one stupid play. I think his reputation as a person really took a hit. he will pay for that. Honestly he will be lucky if the lakers give him a second chance. I think they will, but he can't have that happen again or he will be done.$700,000. Weak.
Only 5 games and $700,000?
I'm not even a Laker fan (far from it) but this is silly. A slap of the wrist might be one game. Do you know how many times in NBA history someone has been suspended 5 or more games? If you throw out the Detroit brawl, less than 10. No slap on the wrist no matter how hard you try to spin it.
Same for a lot of things in sports, in general. That just shows how much of a joke the NBA is.
If you or I had done that to someone, we'd be arrested for assault. He could have permantantly injured Barea. It was premeditated, and deserved minimum 20 games.
5 games out of 82 IS a slap on the wrist, no matter HOW you try to spin it.
Yeah $700,000 is a slap on the wrist, lol...
The play wasn't even that horrible, not the first time someone got shoved or undercut purposedly in the air. The size difference between Bynum and Barea exaggerates it.
Dirty play but never warrants a historical fine or suspension.
Raja Bell was suspended one game for taking Kobe's head off.

I tried to delete the comment, because I forgot that Bell was suspended for a playoff game.Yeah, it was a pretty dirty play but Kobe wasn't airborne at the time and it was an outstretched arm rather than a forcefully thrown elbow. It was dirty, BUT, it wasn't as dirty. Also, he didn't do it on the heels of having just cheap shotted another player in almost the same manner.
Steve
Apparently, you didn't even see it. Barea wasn't shoved or just undercut. He was deliberately elbowed forcefully to the upper rib cage while he was at his apex laying the ball in the hoop. It very well merited what he got if not more.
Now if it was the next 5 PLAYOFF games, that would be something.
He wasn't elbowed get real.
that's really what it should be... doing it at the end of the playoffs means he kind of gets away with it. any playoff suspensions that can't be met during that playoff run should effect the player in his next one.
