O.k. I've expressed my displeasure on here before about my experience thus far with DISH. Couldn't watch any of the Coyotes playoff games, missing the first episode of The Walking Dead because of their pissing match with AMC, ESPN and many other channels that SHOULD be aired in HD aren't, etc.

I have about two more months with my current contract with them. I'm thinking I'm gonna switch. So, who should I go with:

Stay with DISH
Direct TV
COX

It seems like both Dish companies are always having pissing matches with one channel or another. Cox isn't the greatest but at least they don't lose any channels.

I have no problem with Dish what so ever.
Besides the Sunday Ticket, what's Direct so much better?

Vegas, baby, yeah!
I've had DirecTV for years now, use Cox for internet. I would never go back to Cox for TV.

Pop decided to save a bit of money and switched from DirecTV to DISH. Changed back as fast as he could after a year.

I love DirecTV except for not getting the Pac12 channel. It was still my vote though.

It can be expensive but it depends on your tier (I have the top tier). I am considering dropping a bunch of stuff because the movie channels rarely seem to have anything good on anyway.

Just about everything about it. Quality, Customer service, interface etc... Directv blows Dish/Cox out of the water

For me, the issue is HD. I switched to FIOS for a couple of years and while they were competitive with all the other cable providers, they were all far behind Direct TV in HD channels. For example, with the NBA league pass just about every game is in HD on Direct TV but you're lucky to get more than one HD game a night on FIOS and the other cable providers.

DTV no doubt about it. I've had it about 8 years. I needed to upgrade my receiver in the kitchen as I got a new HD tv. I called and they gave me one for free as I had been with them for that long.... only paying $ 5 or so a month for whole home capability also.

My only complaint would be that I lose the signal sometimes when there is a strong thunderstorm... but it never rains here anyway.

I have Cox and have every channel and HD damn near every channel too.. I live in PHX so I don't need Sunday ticket because I get to see every game for the Cardinals.. And I don't have to worry about a storm or winds knocking out my service..

Every time I've seen a comparison of HD availability, DTV always wins and usually by a large margin. I'm not counting the HD on demand channels either.

Also, I've had Direct TV since it's inception in the mid 90's (with a 2 year break) and I can count on one hand the number of times I've lost my signal. I use to lose my cable signal (Cox) several times a month and it was the main reason I switched to DTV in the first place. Of course, that was long before Cox went digital so I have no idea what they are like today. I do know my son got so tired of Cox when he moved back to the Valley that he gave up on cable and switched to the internet for his shows.

Not everyone makes a cop's salary.

Most of the crap on cable/satellite isn't worth the commitment.

Hmm, I have DISH and watched every Coyotes playoff game. ESPN is in HD. Wonder if it is a regional thing, as I don't live in AZ any longer. AMC is back on DISH as well. I have had both DTV and DISH, and they are equal to me, so I would say either is fine unless you need the Sunday Ticket.

Without Sunday Ticket, I don't understand the appeal of satellite at all. At least not here where Cox is still reasonable with their maintenance and their costs.

Cox has some of the worst customer service out there. They arent cheap by any means either. People like Brian say they worry about an outage on Satellite due to weather?? You live in AZ. In NV. I have lost my signal literally 2 times in like 12 years. When I had cox I would get outages 2 to 3 times a year sometimes all day. I would call and all they would say is "sorry were working on the system in your area" or some garbage like that. They are just plain awful. The interface on their DVR's is complete garbage too.

DirectTV customer service kills Cox without question. I was stuck with Cox when I lived in AZ. Hated it!

I have had a satellite for about 6 years in Chicago. Had more trouble with cable here that with a satellite. Lots more.

First off, Jon and Shane's votes don't count. They are still unaware the Cox now carries Bravo.

Second, I havd Cox for 8 years and my TV sent our twice and internet about 5 times. They came back pretty quick most the those times. I had to call twice and although their customer service sucks, their service is the best IMO. As far as cost, you can mix and match to a reasonable price.

We've been with DirecTV for about ten years now. Very happy with the service and they throw us freebies just about every 2 years when contract renewal comes around. We use Cox for Internet, but would love to switch if there was another comparable service, but there isn't. We had terrible issues with Cox's TV and customer service.

I will be checking out the new Dish system at my FIL's soon. I'll report back on what I thought of the new "Hopper" system.
