We'll see if Montgomery is their first choice and if so will he be interested or wait for a better job.

"Bobby Knight not interested in Cal?

Among the possible candidates to replace Ben Braun: former Stanford and Warriors coach Mike Montgomery, St. Mary's coach Randy Bennett, Nevada's Mark Fox, Gonzaga's Mark Few and former UCLA coach Steve Lavin. Cal athletic director Sandy Barbour did not offer much insight into the impending search, other than to say Cal would seek a coach with "an established track record of success." She referred to that quote when asked about Montgomery and Bennett, saying each had enjoyed great success. The phrase resurfaced when one reporter mentioned Bob Knight, the winningest coach in college basketball history (albeit with significant baggage). Former Cal coach Pete Newell, a longtime Knight adviser and confidante, said Wednesday of Knight and Cal: "That's the last place he'd go. ... I think he's out of coaching for good." -- SF Chronicle "

Montgomery is the favorite now for Loyola Marymount according to the LA Daily News. They said he likes the area and he can possibly get one of those when I retire you hire my son deals at LMU.

Eric Mussleman is a candidate at Cal too.
