3-4 DE vs 4-3 but production and age are very similar. It will be interesting to see the guaranteed money.

Seahawks signed DE MIchael Bennett to a three-year, $31.5 million extension through 2020.

Bennett had one year left on his deal in 2017 and was set to count $9.5 million against the cap. This deal likely lowers that number on top of making Bennett happy after he seems to cause a stir almost every offseason in regards to his contract. Bennett just turned 31 last month, so this could be the last deal of his career. He's currently PFF's 6th-ranked 4-3 end and No. 1 versus the run.

This should be what is settled on with CC.

Sounds like 17.5 mil guaranteed.

Just by reputation and name CC isnt quite as big as Bennett, and so that should benefit us a little bit.

If we could cut that guaranteed money down to 16M, I think 2 years 8 and 8 would be perfect.

Just like Bennett though...this will be CC's last big contract (he may play on 1 year deals after). I would imagine he will want and get a 4 year deal.

The years of the deal dont matter. It could be a 5 year deal. The guaranteed money is what determines a contracts actual length. And so at 16M guaranteed, after the 2nd year you can cut him, and the remaining years will have no cap hit or dead money.

Its the reason DWash has been on our roster for 4 years, despite being suspended. Because he had a boatload of guaranteed money, and we couldnt cut him without taking a massive cap hit.

if he signed a 4 year deal with a $16m prorated bonus, as it's always done, there would be $8m to be accounted under the CAP if CC was cut after 2 seasons.

Dont prorate it.

No one does because it hamstrings what else you may want to do with CAP space in a given season.

The only reason you typically prorate the bonus is because young guys get extensions. And then before the end of that deal, he gets another extension. And so youre able to keep kicking the money down the road.

When you have a vet like this, its different. There is no "next extension after this one". You just hunk the money at them up front. Look at Evan Mathis. We signed him on 1 year, full guaranteed $6mill. Even if it were a 2 year deal, we would probably give him the full $6M in the first year.

In regards to CC, I think simpler is better. 2 years, 8 and 8. Or 10 and 6. Or 12 and 4. etc. However CC and the Cardinals choose to break it down, 16 over 2 years sounds perfect for CC. He has shown zero indication he is slowing. In fact, this was arguably his best year as a pro.

Bennett just set the ceiling for Campbell...
I can see he and the Cards coming together on a 3 year deal worth $29 million with $14-$15 million guaranteed... [emoji106]

It sure seems that way but I'm not convinced. I can see Campbell signing somewhere for 12 or 13 and Bennett walking around for another year with stink on his face because he feels 'underappreciated'.

Palatable.

Bennett just made Keim's job easier. Re-sign Calais, franchise Jones. Plenty of time to do so after Sunday.

The Card's just paid CC's contract in full with no 'kicking down the road', so to speak.

You are free to think that accounting for a $16m bonus over two seasons is a good idea, but the chances that they would hamstring precious CAP space in this fashion are slim and none - imo.

I agree with this---CC's contract hamstrung this year's CAP and the Cardinals do not want to do that again.

I think CC will chase the highest offer and that won't come from the Cardinals. If he was offered the same numbers as the Michael Bennett deal by the Cardinals, I bet he wouldn't take it.

If you compare the two contracts over the life of the current deal plus the same extension for both, Calais has been better paid for what some say has been a little less consistent performance. That doesn't pencil out based on the stats below. In fact, if I were CC's agent I would contend that CC was much more productive (49% more tackles) & he is a year younger. One key factor is Bennett still has another year left on his deal so he didn't have the leverage CC has as a FA. I would be happy to pay the same extension for CC but his agent will expect more. Hopefully CC is willing to stay.

Bennett Current Contract 4 Years 32M + Extension 3 Years 31.5M = 63.5M or 9.07M per year.
Campbell Current Contract 5 Years 55M + Extension 3 Years 31.5M = 86.5M or 10.81M per year.
Bennett Production...74 games 38.5 Sacks 194 tackles (133 solo/61 asst)..... or avg of .52 Sacks & 2.62 tackles per game.
Campbell Production..74 games 34 Sacks 290 tackles (222 solo/68 asst)..... or avg of .46 Sacks & 3.91 tackles per game.
