New half-hour on Showtime, premiered last night. Nuts and bolts of the show - David Duchovny plays a sex-addicted novelist with writer's block in LA and it's funny, smart, clever and... yes, there's a lot of nudity.

I read the pilot for this about four months ago and thought it was one of the best things I'd read in a long time. The actual show started a little rough around the edges, but got better the longer I watched and while it didn't quite match what I had imagined while reading it, it's still a REALLY good show and I can't wait to start watching episodes that I haven't read yet.

I don't know what happened over at Showtime in the last couple years, but they've gone from having horrific original programming to simply HBO-level shows, with Dexter, Weeds, Brotherhood and now, Californication.

Caught the show last night. Wasn't bad. Especially the relationship with the ex and the circle ending with the 16 year old daughter of the ex's boyfriend.

Luckily Showtime and HBO repeat these shows 37 times each week because I believe the show is going to air at the same time as Monday Night Football.

The youngest girl from "The Nanny" has really grown up.

My impression is it's a less campy, more graphic version of Dream On.

Then I am guessing the first sex scene in Malibu was a bit much for you?

I watched the first episode.

It's different...I look forward to the next one.

Not really the plot. I just don't think I like David Duchovny outside the X-files.

okay, so the pilot was better on the page and the second episode was just bad. I've probably got one more episode in me for this show to hook me and if I'm not in by then, I'm scratching this off this list.

saw two episodes whilst in minneapolis. i thought it was entertaining. the scene where he goes flying off the chick and then vomits on the painting is classic. particularly when his ex and the fam come bustin' in (though i'm not certain why they were bustin' into that room if it was supposed to be occupied).

I haven't seen the pilot, but for some reason I couldn't turn away from Episode #2. Duchovny will always be Mulder to me, but it was cool seeing him in something so different, and there were a few funny parts.

As for the vomit scene, I believe that was his ex and her fiance's bedroom. I would guess the party guests didn't know they were even in there.

ah, i thought it was a guestroom.

Just watched episode 2 and 3.

I am really into it.

I think the bedroom scene was a guest room. He fell down and made a ruckus (can you describe the ruckus?) and there were 3 people at the door to check it out...his ex, her new BF, and his ex's friend.

At the beginning of the scene they talk about it being the same bed his ex and her fiance sleep in.

After seeing the latest episode, I'm officially hooked. There's something really cool about Hank Moody's detached cynicism. And he's not really that bad of a guy--just someone who says what a lot of people wish they could say.

The back-to-back lineup of Weeds and Californication is quality. This show has edge and intellect. Thank god for DVR, i will not miss an episode of either one

Just saw an episode in season 3 that had Ken Marino from The State (early 90's MTV sketch comedy show). Marino used to have a character that used the catch phrase "dip my balls in it." In this Californication episode he plays a writer who mentions something about drinking "word tea" while he works. Duchovny and he get into it a little after he says that and Duchnovny tells him to brew up a pot of word tea and go dip his balls in it!

I fully realize I'm probably only a handful of people that got the joke. But I'm pretty psyched about it. I love the State!

I've decided that Hank moody is one of the great tv characters of all time. So flawed, so likable. You want redemption for him probably more than he does for himself.

In honor, I've changed my rington from magnum to the Californication theme.

Three things:

1- I am officially in love with Addison Timlin
B- Gonna be interesting to see how Hank is able to piece together everything, things are just not usually gonna work out well when you get charged with statutory rape.
3- I love Addison Timlin

I just started watching this show this season but I love it. Moody is a hilarously flawed but lovable character and I think Rob Lowe might be playing the part of his career, so funny!

Bucky did you or anyone else watch the season finale tonight?

If so how did you like it?

It was actually the first episode of the entire series that I didn't really care for. It was a good wrap up to signify that Hanks life is officially moving on but it felt more like a SERIES finale in parts but then they had a couple of cliffhangers in there too. IDK I just got done watching it but I just found myself wishnig they hadn't wasted so much time with the dinner scene from BIZZARO WORLD (although it was funny) and just focused on wrapping things up. Regardless I really like this show and I cant wait for next season.

besides the gratuitous nudity i just don't get what people like about this show. the lead character isn't funny and is a douchebag... his ex-wife is pathetic, his daughter is annoying and pretty much no one in the show acts like a believable human being.
