besides the gratuitous nudity i just don't get what people like about this show. the lead character isn't funny and is a douchebag... his ex-wife is pathetic, his daughter is annoying and pretty much no one in the show acts like a believable human being.
Wow.

I'm tearing though the 4th season (literally) right now and I was just thinking how much I love it. Rob Lowe's character nailed it when he said it's not about banging chicks, it's about trying to hold it together when things are coming apart.

It's about redemption and true love, IMO. Moody is a terrifically flawed character. ...plus, I think he's funny as hell.

90% of television characters don't behave like believable human beings. If I wanted to watch a believable human being I'd go to starbucks and sit there for an hour.

She's horrible, she talks like a robot. Is she some big studio execs daughter?

Agree on all points. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I like Moody he's a character that has all the talent and potential in the world but he cant stop tripping over himself in the process of trying to get things right.

The whole show is supposed to be an exagguration of what happens to people when they come out to LA and get caught up in the Hollywood lifestyle. It would be pretty boring if they acted like believable human beings, but thats just my opinion, not trying to force it on anyone else.

I will concede that the daughter is terrible though, I'm not sure how she landed the role and wont speculate any further on the matter.

i just don't see it. he's painfully un-funny to me. charlie's pretty much the only funny/believable character on the show IMO.

which is why 90% of television sucks... and those characters that aren't believable better be freaking hilarious in a comedy. otherwise it's just crap IMO.

for example, to me... the characters in It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia are COMPLETELY unbelievable, but they're funny as hell... and the show isn't supposed to be believable. Characters in stuff like Arrested Development were completely unbelievable but they were hilarious... 30 Rock... Community... all the same. difference is all those shows pretty much live in a world of NON-reality.

i think Californication tries to play it "real" and it just comes off as ham-fisted.

yeah, i disagree. you can be believable and still funny. Ari on Entourage is a good example of this. that guy DOES exist in LA. i've known him/worked for him. these characters... sorry, none of it is either funny/believable and when you don't hit on either of those, you've lost me as an audience member.

I agree 100% on Always Sunny, that is one of my favorite shows.

I really cant even speak on Californiacation because this is the first season I've watched but I enjoy it. Are you still watching it or is your take based on earlier seasons that caused you to lose interest?

Not trying to be contrary, honestly just wondering if this is one of those shows that has gotten better, I think this is the 4th season or so... Either way, like I said to each their own. I also agree with you on Entourage so there ya go.

no, my roommates all watch it, so i'm pretty much forced to watch it.

i also just don't buy that Hank Moody is literally the most irresistable man on the planet who can literally make any woman drop their pants within 2 seconds of meeting him.

You mean like the actress in the finale that brought him in her trailor and gave it up inexplicably after a 10 second conversation? lol I will give you that. He does tend to get alot of action with minimal/no effort.

Like I said I am inclined to agree with you especially about the season finale which is why I posted that I didn't care for it, but overall I'm still entertained by the show.
