The LAN issues where just fixted today I believe with their new patch. I played in a LAN in COD4 with 4 people in my house, so I dont know why they would not enable that again.

2 player online split screen on the same console would be sweet though.

Never understood the fanfare for online play in shooters. It is the most repetitive form of game play around. Staying on the same few maps running around trying to kill each other over and over and over again. When you get killed there is no real penalty all you do is have an instant re spawn and then back at it again and again and again.
:yeahthat: I've seen dcr play for hours, and I just don't get the draw.

I will log some heavy time on this tonight. The one thing I am disappointed in is that the System Link Play is limited to 2 players I have heard. WTF???

Why is it that Bungie and the Halo franchise continue to be the only ones that "get it" on the 360? I just don't understand how they could leave off the ability to have some awesome LAN parties with a game that is suppose to be the ultimate multiplayer FPS. In my mind no matter how good this game is online, it can't be the best multiplayer experience until that is added as a feature.

That's usually why I buy most FPS on my PC versus Xbox 360 with the exception of the Halo franchise.

At minimum it should be 2 players per console split screen with up to 18 players multiplayer offline. That is not unreasonable IMO.

1st party exclusive (Halo) vs 3rd party multi-platform (COD) - its easier to program for the specifics of one system when you're programming the game for one system as compared to have to program it for multiple systems.

IMO The campaign wasn't as good as the original Modern Warfare but multiplayer and the challenge modes make up for it. I give it a 9/10.

Not sure where to go with this one yet, but it looks like MW3 will charge for online play to give players additional access to maps and other content. There will still be a "free" multiplayer mode, but if you want to chip in the extra few bucks you can.

Sounds great to me. Looking at the Yahoo article it sounds like they have a 3-5 plan of implementation before they expect all players to pay the fee.

I don't think that is accurate. All of multiplayer stuff (maps, weapons) will still be free as it is today. Sounds like the "subscription" will be for stuff like statistics tracking and possibly custom skins (i.e. uniforms) and things that don't really impact online play.

I have always hated this game series and now even more. Too many other better games out there. Why don't they take the time and actually release a good game versus putting out new crappy games and expansion packs every 6 months? Pay for this crap? yeah right. Battlefield 3 FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its gonna make MW3 look silly. I know COD is the popular choice but the Battlefield series if far superior in all facets of the game from graphics to sound to game play to realism.

Activision plans to charge a monthly subscription fee for the service, which will provide extra content that isn't offered on game discs sold in stores, including downloadable map packs that give players new "Call of Duty" levels to play.

One clarification from my previous post. When I said the "online maps" will be free I was referring to the ones that come with the game. You won't have to subscribe to have access to them and still be able to play online without subscribing.

The additional map packs will be included as part of the subscription price they are charging. However, the maps won't be "exclusive content" to subscribers. You can still purchase the add-on map packs just like you would normally get to. I would imagine they might give "subscribers" a exclusivity window but they have not been clear about even doing that.

So, at the end of the day you are paying $7.99 a month to get stats, videos and possible custom "cosmetic" stuff. They say they are including the add-on map packs but in reality you really are paying for them just after one month. Multiply that by how many months you have it and they better damn well include it in the price.

It's a scam because you can't tell me that each user paying 7.99 per month isn't over kill for paying for a server that basically stat tracks and posts the information. They are going to make money hand over fist for anybody that falls for this. The money they make off of you will pay for the map packs, the server and then some. Activision's Quote - "Mr. Dyer said he is "very confident" other publishers will follow Activision's lead. "There's money to be made there".

I think they are really targeting the console market. I can't imaging a big market for this in the PC world. There are to many tools you can use to do your own stat tracking for PC users. I used to run a few on my gaming servers way back when.
