Pure salary dump.

Sources: Nuggets agree to trade Camby to Clippers for second-round pick

The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed in principal on a trade with the Denver Nuggets to acquire center Marcus Camby as their replacement for Elton Brand, according to NBA front-office sources.Sources told ESPN.com that the Clippers will only have to surrender a second-round pick to acquire Camby, who is being jettisoned by the Nuggets purely for payroll relief.

In a van...down by the river.
So the NBA's '07-'08 #1 shot blocker,#2 rebounder, and recent former DPOY costs a 2nd round pick?:barf:
Well ,rebounds are going to be hard to come by facing a front line of Kamen/Camby....as well as a good shot in the paint.

At least Nuggets didn't include 2 first round picks.

My thoughts exactly.

It's sad when you see a deal like this and go "wow, not bad Denver."

p.s. Kaman is def not a PF, and Camby is as Center as they come.

Davis
Mobley
Thornton
Kaman
Camby

thats what I called offensively challenged.

Baron is going to go nuts

Wasn't there a rumor that the Nuggs wanted to trade Camby for Marion but D'Antoni said no?

To think we could have Camby right now instead of Shaq.

Maybe so but when Kamen isn't hampered with back problems he can score inside with the best of 'em.
Anyway,defense wins championships.
According to Hollingers stats, the NBA's FINAL FOUR last year ranked 4th,5th,8th and 12th in offensive efficiency among all playoff teams for you "offensive" believers out there.

Camby can play PF, he did so with the Knicks. That isn't a problem.
The chemistry is different now. Kaman ( should have made the all star game last year) can be the second go to guy now that Brand is gone. That leaves Baron as the go to guy. Plus, we have Thornton who will get his 14-18 points a night. We have our 3 scorers now and we still have approx 4 million left of cap space and the full MLE left to fill out our roster. That is 9 + million left to get the likes of:

Matt Barnes
Azibuike
JR Smith
Sasha vujacic
or any other player in a trade

We still have Eric Gordon ( top scorer in college before injury), DeAndre Jordon ( steal in draft) , Tim Thomas & Cat Mobley.
We have good young talent + decent veterans.

Camby wasn't my choice but with these 2 (Kaman & Camby) guys clogging up the paint, I don't see how we can't be one of the top defenses in the league.

Wow! I know the Nuggets are in luxury-tax hell -- or were, I guess -- but that's amazing. Camby is a really good player.

It makes me wonder about the Suns GM expertise. Camby went for just a second round pick. I bet even Marion will fetch something attractive if he is moved. The Suns had to give up two firsts picks to move a quality center (and expiring contract) in KT.

Yeah, that was an insanely bad trade, especially since the Suns at the very least could have used Thomas for half a season and dumped him then.

Couldn't we have sold those picks for 3 million each? So we essentially paid 6 million of his 8 million, therefore we only saved 2 million by moving him, right?

Expertise as nothing to do with it, if your boss tells you to dump salary ASAP you make it happen. I would be shocked if other GM's around the didn't know the working conditions Kerr is under and use it as leverage. I definitely believe it alters his negotiating position at a minimum at a max it resembles the current housing market where sellers are desperate to dump assets that they throw in anything you want.

Camby for a non-guaranteed pick? Not even a first rounder? Most second rounders don't even play for their team. A bargain, imho.

This may beat the Lakers getting Gasol especially when the trade for Camby is nothing but a second round pick. Sometimes the NBA really confuses me.

Camby is a lot better than KT. He is A LOT BETTER than KT. That's why he could be dumped without anything extra. As it was, the Clippers could only get him because they lost a guy who is far better than either of the two. If the Clippers re-signed Brand, then the Nuggets would have had a terrible time getting out of LT hell.

BTW, I don't remember a Marion for Camby deal being discussed (I was offl-line for a while), but since Camby makes $8 million and Marion $17 million, I am unclear how the numbers were supposed to work. My guess is that it included Kenyon Martin and the Suns having to give up somebody else. With Diaw and Barbosa under base year contracts, it could have been awfully expensive.

This deal must be the most unbalanced deal in years. I'll bet the nuggets have their own 1st round pick next year! TANK, TANK, memphis style, but perhaps even more blatant. With no interior defense AND no perimeter defense watch the nuggets sink. AI will look worse than steve nash on defense now that no one is playing D behind him.

you're calling for a "TANK, TANK" before the season even starts, for a team with all-stars like AI and 'melo, staring a draft in the face that doesn't have consensus top talent waiting at the end of the rainbow like a yao, 'bron, oden/durant, mayo/rose/beasely??? that's just ridiculous. it's not a "TANK, TANK" it's just a salary dump. and good for the clips. that's a nice recovery. much better than the, "oh crap, we can't resign mcdyess, sign GOOOOOOOOOOGS!"

At 8M/yr as a starting C/PF, camby is an incredible bargain, a freakin bargain. This is an NBA starter with DPY honors, thats one pathetic salary dump.

I would have thought that they would have traded Melo before this move.

Yup melo or AI and theri large salaries would be preferable. If defense wins championships, then melo and AI aint gonna win anything. Camby is probably one of the lowest paid starting big man in the west not on a rookie contract.

The AI experiment failed. It has become obvious that the Nuggests are not going to win it so they are going to dump salaries and have a fire sale.
