Camby can play PF, he did so with the Knicks. That isn't a problem.
The chemistry is different now. Kaman ( should have made the all star game last year) can be the second go to guy now that Brand is gone. That leaves Baron as the go to guy. Plus, we have Thornton who will get his 14-18 points a night. We have our 3 scorers now and we still have approx 4 million left of cap space and the full MLE left to fill out our roster. That is 9 + million left to get the likes of:

Matt Barnes
Azibuike
JR Smith
Sasha vujacic
or any other player in a trade

We still have Eric Gordon ( top scorer in college before injury), DeAndre Jordon ( steal in draft) , Tim Thomas & Cat Mobley.
We have good young talent + decent veterans.

Camby wasn't my choice but with these 2 (Kaman & Camby) guys clogging up the paint, I don't see how we can't be one of the top defenses in the league.
Looks like the Clippers are trying to become the Warriors South...

I hope GS matches the offer for Azubuike, I dont want to lose him...The Clips can have Barnes... BTW, this trade was a Hugesteal for the Clips

The AI experiment failed. It has become obvious that the Nuggests are not going to win it so they are going to dump salaries and have a fire sale.

I don't think so. They're doing this so they can re-sign J. R. Smith (and possibly Najera) and not have a nine-figure team payroll. Their luxury tax bill with Camby was going to be through the roof.

Najera is gone. He signed with the Nets several days ago.

SURPRISE!!! No really, Surprise.
The Clippers on Tuesday night swung a trade to import Denver Nuggets center Marcus Camby as their Brand replacement for the minuscule cost of giving Denver the option to swap second-round picks in 2010, capitalizing on the Nuggets' need to shed salary to create their own financial flexibility.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3491156

So, tell me if I am understanding this right, not only was this trade for a second round pic, but I am understanding it as the clippers did not give away the second round pic but gave the nuggets the OPTION to SWAP. what....

So if the Clpis end up having a higher second round the Nugs could say, yeah we want that pick? but it the Nugs have the higher pic, what was the point. That seems to me thay the Clips gave up nothing. (not that a second rounder in worth a whole lot to begin with)

Am I understanding this right?

That is correct.

Also the Clippers dont have the MLE. The offer sheet to Azubuike was pretty much the remainder of our Cap space. After that we can only offer the league min, because we do not have the MLE or LLE this year, due to being under the salary cap.

Camby Still Upset At How Deal Went Down

Marcus Camby was introduced as the newest member of the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, and he made it clear that he is still upset at how the deal from Denver went down, the Associated Press is reporting.
The Nuggets only got a second round pick in return for the player who has led the league in blocked shots the last three years.
"When I heard of the trade, I said, 'Who did Denver get in return?'" Camby said Monday at an introductory news conference.
Camby became the latest victim of a team trying to shed salary due to the luxury tax, which made him feel as though his efforts with the Nuggets were unappreciated. There was also the matter of how Camby was informed about the deal.
"I understand this is a business," he said. "No one said a word [about the trade], I found out from my agent."
"I thought the way [the Nuggets] went about it was classless," he said. "I thought it could have gone down a whole lot better. I'll get over it once training camp begins when I'm around the guys. You never forget. I'm definitely looking forward to those couple games we play against Denver."

Carmelo Doesn't Understand Camby Trade

Nuggets' guard Carmelo Anthony actually thought he was the one who had been traded before learning teammate Marcus Camby had been dealt recently to the Clippers.
"Everybody was blowing my phone up," Anthony said. "So I picked up my phone and called back someone who said, 'Did you hear what happened?'. I said, 'Where am I going now?' I was just laughing and joking [before the trade] about how much was involving the Denver Nuggets right now. So I was like, 'Where am I going?' They said, 'Camby got traded.' I said, 'Let me call you back,' and I got off the phone. It was tough to see a guy like that, especially for me, this is my fifth year and I played five years with Camby, it was like we almost started an organization together. To see a Defensive Player of the Year just leave like that for nothing, I still don't understand that."

Camby, on whether he or Kaman will play center:

“Chris can play (center) when we play Phoenix,” Camby said with a smile, drawing laughter from the assembled gathering. The Suns’ center is Shaquille O’Neal.

I love it! That quote brings joy to my heart.

For decades, it would have meant . . . a semi-vacation. Their Center going against our Forward.

Camby and Kaman are both centers. Kaman's bigger than Camby but even if he wasn't, it's hardly surprising they'd put the '07 DPOY on the Suns' biggest scoring threat, and that would be Amare.

Camby is still listed 6'11" 235, which is why he struggles with really big low post players. With the Nuggets, Nene was put on Duncan with Camby coming over from the weak side. But unlike some of the other skinny shot blockers (3.3 bpg), Camby is a terric rebounder at 13.1 rpg last season.

Where Camby does not replace Brand is on the offensie side. Camby averaged only 9.1 ppg and 45.0% shooting. In the playoffs he scored only 3.3 ppg.

My comment on the Camby quote was because the article inferred that Shaq was such a fearsome cover Camby didn't want to take him on--the size thing again. Camby isn't exactly hefty and Shaq is obviously bigger than most who will guard him. Shaq is bigger than most, period.

So size vs. size would make Kaman on Shaq the way to go but if Shaq comes into camp anywhere near 325, he'd still have a 60-pound advantage. Kaman would not just be the poor guy thrown in there to absorb punishment, though, which was the implication. He's no slouch--he had his best career year last season and in fact his stats were better than Shaq's in ppg, RBs, and blocks. It would be interesting because Kaman could likely do very well in that matchup while Camby concentrates on Amare.

As everyone keeps telling me, stats are often deceptive.

Kamen put up great stats as soon as Brand left, but there record was awful. All the games were held before Shaq came to the Suns, but Amare had no trouble scoring against Kamen.
