Are we ever going to draft a legitimate edge rushing threat?

At the time when the 49ers drafted Aldon Smith, they already had two better than average edge rushers in Ahmad Brooks and Parys Haralson---yet they see how Aldon Smith can make their defense all the more explosive and they draft him.

Interesting too that the 49ers said this week that Aldon Smith is their MVP.

As I have been arguing for years---some of the reason why our offensive tackles struggle, particularly early in games is that they have no speed edge rushers to block in practice.

We need some speed and quickness on the edge, now more than ever with Kaepernick and Wilson in our own division for the next 10 years.

I would take Jarvis Jones and Demantre Moore over Warmack. But that's just me.

We need pass rushers for sure. But I am so sick of the bad interior line I can't even think of another position. If Jones is a top notch talent I don't mind taking him but we need to address at least one guard spot in the next two rounds.

I agree with this statement. I also find the depth of the DE/OLB position to be the best in years. I would also throw in Werner and Mingo as players that have a chance to make a significant impact at the next level. I think it is likely there is at least 1-3 players in the mold of Clay Matthews/Von Miller/Aldon Smith in this draft. It would be very short-sighted of the Cards to not have a talented pass rusher amongst their top 7 players.

We have a top 10 D now and no offense, run game, or pass blocking, and some of you still think a DE is a top priority? We would all love a DE who get 15 sacks a year, but it is a luxury not a necessity at this point in our futility.

But finding an elite pass rusher is alot harder than finding an elite OG. I don't care how good the guard is, I would never take one over a pass rusher.

Picking at 7 should BPA. We don't want to pass on another AP because we drafted for need. From what I've read this draft is deep in OL talent. A top pass rusher is worth way more than a top guard in my humble opinion.

Me too. No fat overrated OG with the #7. That being said hopefully a skill position Offensive BPA is available at #7.

It is like this at the moment. In today's NFL you have to score a lot to win each Sunday for the most part. The rules are shaped now that usually even with a good defense, the offense will be allowed to get close to 21 points or more. Presently, we cannot even stop the opposing sides mediocre pass rushers. We need to fix this OL before we can even consider a edge pass rusher in my opinion.

Don`t want Damontre Moore or Jarvis Jones or Bark Mingo..................forget all 3 of them.Jones Medical would scare me off,Mingo and Moore will be no better than average players if that.Too many holes in their games.I want the Cards to pick a guy who can be effective all the time and not be a semi-specialist.

No we cannot ignore the OL year after year after year after year. Our front 7 is far more complete than the OL.

Same things were said about Von Miller, Aldon Smith, Bruce Irvin the last two years. I don't think those teams are two upset with their "will only be average one dimensional, to many holes in their games" players.

First off, it's more than one guy. Look at Aldon's numbers after Justin Smith went down.

Darnell Dockett will be that guy. Getting back to him being the focus of the defense will benefit us greatly. Good to see Arians point that out. We have the guys to get to the passer. We just need to put them in a position to do it.

Like when we passed up Jonathon Ogden in order to draft Simeon Rice?

Wow, Jeff, you really went way back to dig that one out.

There is no Jonathan Ogden in this draft.

if you think Fisher is the next Ogden---wow---
