can Matrix be the Darryl Green of the NBA?

i look at that guy and see a dude that's just SO blazing fast that its not going to go away for a heck of a long time. he could be in his mid-30's, lose a step or two, and still be the fastest guy on the court.

darryl green played for the redskins in the 80's. this dude was the fastest guy in the NFL when he came in. he retired at the age of 39 AT LEAST in the top 10% of speedsters in the league. add that to the smarts he got over the years, and he was just as valuable a player.

i say this because everyone always says trade marion because his value is so much based on his quickness and people always assume that quickness fades first. usually, it does. in rare instances, dudes are just SO fast that they can maintain. I think marion could be that kind of guy. a definite freak in that sense.

You may be thinking of me, and like the post above says, Marion isn't the fastest on the team.

Also, I'm not worried about Marion's speed as much as I am his jumping ability. That is what his game really hinges on.

Marion isn't as fast as he is quick, if that even makes sense. Barbosa is by far the fastest player on the team.... maybe even the NBA.

Marion has quick hands and gets quite a few steals from that attribute

Marion is basketball smart. It is something he never gets credit for. He reads passing lanes, knows the angle the ball is coming off the rim, and motions without the ball well. It's the same way that Rodman was able to play so long. There are plenty of guys out there just as athletic as Marion. None of them do what he does.

well i guess that depends on 2 things mainly


1) can the suns make it to or win the finals?
2) will the suns get good players in the draft?


he would probably resign at a decent price if we get to the finals as everyone wants to be on the winning team, and if we get good players in the draft he can expect that winning to continue

Actually I think that is a great comparison but for the wrong reason. It wasn't just DG speed that kept him in the league. He was just amazing in terms of his conditioning and he could still cover the best of em.

I think Marion could be a guy like that could maintain his conditioning for a long period of time and sitll have game.

One of the biggest risks in sports is to sign a guy who then gets injured. Knock on wood, Marion has been amazingly injury free.

The real problem with older players is that the cummulative impact of injuries eventually catches up with them. Chris Webber was one of the most athletic big men I had ever seen when he first came up (in the Amare and early McDyce class); but after a career of injuries he's very slow now.

But there have been guys who maintained their athleticism well into their thirties due to being injuriy free. Reggie Miller is a guy who lasted into his late thrities because he played fewer than 66 games only once. John Stockton only had three years where he played fewer than 82: 78, 64, and 50. Yes they slowed down some, but were still very effective to the end.

Trix will only get better as time marches on. His skill might diminish a bit but not enough to render him antiquated. He will become wiser as he has already and develop the ability to do more with less effort. His hustle is beyond anyone in the league. He really works harder than anyone, its obvious in his play

Marion is obviously the 2nd fastest player on the team. But, when you watch the games and the suns get a fast break it is hard for anyone to beat Marion down court.

In a game a while back, Nash or Bell had a rebound and were going down court on the sideline, there were two defenders running down mid court, (with some distance between them and Marion) Marion caught them, ran past and between them, and caught a pass and dunked it! Unbelievable! Marion is fast going end to end!

What makes Marion so great is that he has such great hands when running the fly pattern.

The key with Leandro is that he's not only fast running down court, but can outrun most guys while dribbling the ball. Leandro doesn't have Marion's hops when finishing, but he can certainly get the ball up court quickly.
