either way it's a good thing. Safety, two points and possession. Fumble recovery, six points and we're rockin and rollin!
He's in a can't lose situation there. And, the ball was already away from him, he may not have known of a "fumble" call. It doesn't bother me at all.

I dont see a safety anywhere in the boxscore. If the other team fumbles in the endzone and we recover its a TD.

Chandler AZ.
However

if the Qb had held the ball and been tackled in the EZ it would have been a safety. So either way it would have been reason to celebrate. That was my point, sorry i wasn;'t clear in the way I wrote it. I didn't mean we actually got both.

It would have been a safety, but with the fumble, it turned out to be a Cardinals touchdown. I was actually hoping for a safety. I don't think I have ever seen the Cardinals cause a safety.

I think part of it is Green saying he's a disapointment and has a high probability of getting cut.

To paraphrase Kermit the frog, thats the beauty of being Green.

If when you finally give Pace a shot to play, he plays well, you're a genius for "motivating" him. If he doesn't play well, you cut him and everyone assumes he stinks when it could just as easily be argued he just needed more PT to show what he could do.

I think Pollard is the big difference for this defense, we went from arguably the worst DL coach in the NFL, to one of the best.

I watched Rashaun Woods make several big plays last night(TD called back) and Keena Turner said something about "everyone's been knocking him so far but he was injured most of camp, and barely played before now, how can you judge a player on that?"

Good job Calvin, keep it up.

1992 Swann crushes the Giants QB in the endzone. We win 19-0.

Sometimes my memory on preseason is a little faulty, but didn't Pace have several sacks during last year's preseason, before he disappeared against the other team's first string once the games counted.

He may or may not slip onto the team, but a couple of preseason plays won't be a difference maker for a veteran coach like Green.

Nor should they be.

Cutting a first round pick after one less-than-steller rookie year would be assinine. Regardless of what he did yesterday.

Pace will make the team. He would have even before last nights game. I think now he may have the confidence to know he can make some plays. And, the coaching staff may have the confidence to give him more opportunity. I don't see him being a liability this year.

Yes he did, this time last year Peter King picked him DROY.

Does anybody know for sure when Pace suffered the abdominal injury last year? It wasn't disclosed at the time.

If I had to bet I would say in the SF game on 10/26, the 7th game of the year.

Per NFL.com at that point he had 19 tackles 1 sack and was coming off his best game of the year with 6 tackles and his only sack against SF's beatup OL.

The rest of the year(9 games), he had only 12 tackles, 0 sacks, and never topped 3 tackles in a game.

My 2nd guess would be Cleveland, after that game he went 3 games in a row with 0, 0 and 2 tackles (assists and solos).

So he either hit the wall at those points, or that's when he got hurt.

We should not have expected a #1 pick to be cut before year two began.
If we ever get some DT's to force the issue in the middle maybe some of
our edge rushers can sniff the QB.

Buckybird,

This was such a happy upbeat thread. Why you gotta come in with the negativity? :)

Other factors are:

1. A full year of experience under his belt. He came from a 3-4 style defense to a 4-3 which has completely different responsibilities and techniques. Which brings up the next point.

2. Real coaching. The difference between the position coaching he's recieving now and last year is night and day. He came in to the league with a lot he needed to learn but he didn't have it taught to him.

3. Much better defensive scheme. No more "grab the o-lineman and see what's happening." So far we've seen several guys look better. KVB has a few sacks so far. We're actually going after the ball now.

Graves was ripped for taking "3rd round talent" in the first round. Jason Taylor was as 3rd round pick. So was KGB. Who would use a first round pick on those guys now? Heck, Ogunleye was a UDFA. I'm not saying Pace will ever be on those guy's level but him being projected by some for a later round doesn't mean he'll never be good.

I remember saying that he was dissapointed in Pace's play as a first rounder but I never recall his saying Pace has a high probability of being cut.

I don't think it is being negative, I think it's the truth. Other than Eric Swannn
name another above average tackle we have ever had on this roster?

I don't like how Pace was celebrating while he teammates were fighting for the ball on the ground.

It was pretty much clear that one of his teammates was going to get the ball and many people were in a better position to get it. Get off Calvin's nuts. :D

I guess when the premise of a thread is flawed, most of the posts seem to be just a bit out of whack.

Yeah! This was during the game excitement and fun! Pre-season or not, it was a win we should enjoy for the moment as I know it will be forgotten next week! And besides, regardless of who was in, I hate the Broncos and to go in their house and win was fun, fun, fun!! Reality will come next week. No overanalysis required on this thread!! WTG Cards!!

Two sacks and two forced fumbles sure look better than the Dennis Johnson stat line of DNP - Coaches decision.
