That's true but Goran was not traded for Knight. I think most critic of the Knight trade bemoan the waste of the assets we got for Dragic, not that they wish we stillness had him.

Except there's no real connection. The payment we received for Goran has yet to come due. And for some people, he was the face of the franchise and the only link back to the Nash days. Some of those fans will always bemoan that trade regardless of who we finally draft with those 2 Miami picks.

The real problem is two-fold. It was understandable but there's no denying we undersold Thomas. And secondly we wasted a potentially very valuable asset (Lakers pick) on Brandon Knight. Even that would have been okay if Knight had been anywhere close to that borderline all star we thought we were acquiring but as we've all seen, that isn't the case.

I don't read many complaints about what we got for Dragic...the picks have a chance at being decent.

What were we supposed to get for Thomas? He's an undersized pg that wasn't starting for the Suns. Was there a bidding war for Thomas that I wasn't aware of? Did we turn down better offers? If he was made a starter over Bledsoe and Dragic then perhaps we could have gotten more...

McD took a chance on Knight...he showed promise on his previous team. Could anyone have foreseen that he would be this bad??

Threads have been bumped a few times from that season when all of the trades went down and very few people were upset about the IT trade. I think everyone was happy or content with the return he brought back, especially since he was signed for nothing. Sure, if we would have kept him his value could have gone up before we eventually traded him but I don't recall anyone making any suggestions or posing any hypotheticals where we got more than we did from trading him, a late #1st round pick and an expiring contract.

When Dragic demanded to be traded it was like a perfect storm with everything spinning out of control.

There is always a lot of rationalization when a trade happens. I found some comfort in knowing the Suns stole IT for almost nothing and received a first round pick in return. Rumors were IT was unhappy being a Sun and wanted out as well.

Still things were vague as to why the Suns traded IT but some posters believed that the trade was already made before Dragic gave his ultimatum. I was a part of this school of thought.

It made sense IT would need to be traded quickly to appease Dragic. Also the trade deadline was coming to an end so the Suns had to move fast.

Thus the Suns did not have time to seek full trade value for IT because they wanted to keep Dragic.

Sure but it's one of things that where even if Goran netted us two picks, it's positiveness is outweighed by the negativeness of the Knight trade.

For example, I would much rather have the Lakers pick this year or next than the 2 Miami picks.

I'd rather not have Knight on the roster but I don't think it's fair to say that the Lakers pick is better than the Miami picks at this point. I think we could have gotten more than what we did for the Lakers pick, which is why it stings to have lost it, but we didn't give anything up to get it. We finally let Nash go and LA gifted us 2 first round picks for him to sit on their bench in a suit. Had we given up anything of real value then I'd be more upset over losing that pick.

We don't know where those picks will end up and also where the Lakers pick ends up being either. Especially with reports out how Magic guaranteed Walton they have a top 3 pick this year, the pick could be awful next season which is when we'll receive the first Miami pick. The Miami picks looked good before but now that the Heat have lost Wade and Bosh plus tied up so much money in Dragic and Whiteside, I think those picks will turn out to be better when it's all said and done.

I have more faith in Riley/Spo finding success than Magic/Walton.
