I mean this is a serious question. If he wasn't on this team what would their record be this season?

That depends who would be our starting PG. It certainly wouldn't be any of our current backups.

The way you stated the question, it can't be answered.

What if Kobe weren't on the Lakers? They'd go after DWade.

They have 12 wins, putting them at 8th worst.

I would expect about 7-8 wins, putting them at 3-5th worst. No way they would be in the bottom 2. NO and CHA are terrible.

My question was with the current roster they have, can they win a game without Nash? Because it seems every single time he sits out a game they lose but it was that way even when they had Amare and Marion, if Nash didn't play it was pretty much a guaranteed L.

Are you saying that we'd have won 7 or 8 games this season if Nash weren't available from the start? If so, I think you might be overstating our wins. Also, I think you might be understating Charlotte and New Orleans wins. Keep in mind that Charlotte would get a chance to add a game to their victory total thanks to us and New Orleans could have as many as 3 more wins.

IMO, without Nash, Frye would have been even worse this season and likely would have never had a chance to try and find his game. I'm not sure how focused the rest of the team would have been either. I think we'd be lucky to win 5 or 6 games. As it stands now, if we were to play the rest of the season without Nash I'd think 15 wins would probably be our ceiling.

No matter how bad your team, it's hard to win so few games in the NBA. I'm trying to be a little conservative in that regard. Perhaps the Suns would eventually learn how to win some games without Nash since he would not be there as a crutch.

That said, a Nash-less Suns would have a small shot at being the worst team in the league (3rd worst would certainly be in reach). Also, such a team would have zero chance of reaching the playoffs.

I love Steve Nash and its highly unlikely we beat anyone but the Wizards, Bobcats, Kings, and Nets without him. That said, if he can't play everyday and is no longer an everyday guard and your team is certainly cooked what are we extending this agonizing pain for? Trade him to a contender, get something useful back and move on?

If we didnt have Nash all year to this point... at most 4 wins. So they'd be battling with Charlotte for the most ping pong balls.

Nash makes everyone else look so much better. Gortat looks like an all-star rather than just "good", and other players look "average" rather than just "garbage", and even further down the line, guys who look "garbage" should be in the WNBA.

Without Nash I wouldn't be so confident of a win against the Kings, Nets or the Wizards. We'd be competitive with Charlotte and the Gordon-less Hornets but any other wins would require missing-player luck or a well above average performance on our part. You get enough of those kind of wins a year to think we'd probably win 5 or 6 games but anymore is probably a stretch.

I can't completely agree with this. I think he makes certain kinds of players better but not all. For example, I really don't think he improves Hill or Childress all that much. I'm not even sure he improves Gortat all that much. I think Gortat is a near all-star level center on his own. I'm not sure that Marcin is all that suited to the pick and roll and IMO just about any quality guard that can make the entry pass would work fine with him. I know he scores often off of the PnR but I think that's more a function of style of play and the strengths of our point guard.

In a van...down by the river.
Nashball minus Nash = ball.....as in a bunch of guys crying "where's the basket? I can't find the basket without Nash."

Basketball minus best player still = basketball....as in a few guys saying "We can step up and still win this without him because our success/failure and system isn't tied to one player."

The Lakers didn't run the Kobe triangle offense, they ran the triangle offense with Kobe on the floor.

EXACTLY.

Seriously, that's what's been the biggest head-scratcher for me. They're resting him... for what purpose? it's not for the playoffs, so if you're just giving up a game every once in a while in a season where you're not going to to do anything anyway... why not just trade him and give up on the ENTIRE season so we can actually GET SOMETHING OUT OF IT?!

this plan... continuing to go with Nash so we can 40% of our games and keep us from getting a high pick which can actually start the rebuild, while giving up games to rest him for no reason whatsoever has no logic to it whatsoever.

It would be logical to do it this way if they were trying to raise his value for a midseason trade. Of course, if they were that logical Nash would have been traded some time ago.
