What you keep showing me is that you're prepared to accept the possibility of improvement from everyone on the team except McCown. I find that evidence of being biased and rather bold... not to say - foolish.

Drew Brees, for example - was 10 W.-17 L going into last season, with an under 60% completion rate and.more Ints than TDs.

I can't recall that there was much demand on this board for bringing him in.

Now... a year later... everyone's a fan.

I expect that in the next few weeks the CARDS will invest over a 1-million in their belief, which I share - that McCown can improve.

Ah, make no mistake...I'd LOVE to see improvement from McCown. I'm not trying to say I wouldn't. I just don't think it will happen. Not a 'bold' statement at all.

As to your use of Brees...show me one Brees who hasn't had the light turn on and all of a sudden has, and I'll show you ten Akili Smiths, Joey Harrington's, Ryan Leafs, and David Klilngers who didn't. Brees is the exception, not the norm.

And I agree the Cards will do so. They really can't NOT do so. As bad as McCown is, if we get rid of him, and get rid of King, as many think we will, we'd only have Navarre and Lewis.

Well, I'll hope for the exception to the rule. :D

We'll see who shows up at camp. I just think it's unlikely that McCown will have the starting job. I know Green was really hyped on him, and Navarre (and the Washington Generals), but it's just really hard to envision a scenario where McCown starts only 4 out of the last 7 games and still ends up as our starter next year.

It isn't "really hard to envision a scenario" where McCown, Navarre and whatever retread is signed... fight it out at camp and that Green decides that McCown has won the competition.

I've already had that nightmare myself.

Russ, do you know if Tedford coached Joey Harrington and Akili Smith?

Yes, he did. Also Dilfer and David Carr.

He's big on fundamentals, that's why Rodgers carries the ball up high like he does and everyone says he's robotic.

I would rather have retread Brad Johnson (SB winning QB 2 yrs ago) than no-name, no production McCown.

Navarre could be a great#2 and our draft pick can be the #3.

I guess we'll have to see who the re-tread is first. Who knows, McCown will have several more months of study time; it all depends on whether or not he has as many deer-in-the-headlights moments.

Isn't that equation incomplete? I mean, with a running game, an improved oline, and resigning a backup QB, don't you still need a starter? ;) :D

Anyone is an upgrade over Josh. Even me.

I guess then you mean we gotta get Leon Blake and Shawn King back then huh??? You also stated in another thread that you'd rather have JM then Rick Gannon...well which is it???

True,

Only Shaun King and Rich Gannon would not be an upgrade over the clown. I still would be.

So will Navarre. Navarre will be cheaper and hopefully won't break any more fingers. If the Cards bring in a re-tread and Navarre looks as good or better than McCown, say goodbye to the latter. Not football - just simple economics.

Simple economics would dictate that - a just over 1 million tender to MCown, when the team has the cap room- is a good insurance policy.

Things have changed on Hardy for sure but we all know the Bidwill's like to save a buck. In fact many teams would. Why spend a million plus when you can get the same production for 300-500k (ie a guy standing on the sidelines holding a clipboard)? Remember I said that this could happen if Navarre's play is considered by the Cards to be the same or better than McCown.

So... I'm to understand that the Cards will not make the playoffs next season if McCown is at the helm.

The real possibility of an improved o-line... an improved running game... a better run defense... Boldin from day one... talented players from last year's draft with additional experience... this year's FAs and draftees....

All of this goes for naught, if McCown is at the helm.

Wouldn't that fall into the realm of a rather "bold statement".

I'm inclined to believe that the admonitions of the bard are still lost on you. :D

are you arguing that it's a bold statement that the cards not make the playoffs next year? i think given our history it would be a bold statement to say we ARE going to make the playoffs. for year's that's been the boldest statement anyone on this board has ever made 'cuz sans one year it's been wrong every year.

In essence, his argument (Stout) was that McCown at the helm would be the difference between making the playoffs or not.

Given the improvements from last year, and those easily envisaged (Improved O-line... D-line... running game... intangibles, such as - experience) I think that McCown can be part of a playoff season.

The likelihood of him improving is no more or less than any other player on the roster.
