THe fresh cut grass, the glove leather, the pine tar, the sunflower seeds, the bubble gum, popcorn, peanuts, beer. This is my second favorite time of the year, next to the start of NFL Training Camp. I am excited about this DBacks team and I think we rebound after a horrible last year and we retake the NL West!!! Go Dbacks!!!!!!

Somehow I thought this thread would be about Tucson ... I guess I was close.

Oh Yeah!

I am geeked out of my mind! Keep staring at the calendar, been waiting what seems like forever to hear those oh-so-magic words...pitchers and catchers report.

As much as I do hate Tucson, I will that the town even more after next year when the DBacks leave. I will have no reason to ever go there. Ever.

I'm excited about the team again this year. Can't wait to take my boys to a spring game or two. Love those 'DBacks.

Did not realize how bad I missed baseball til a week ago. I become somewhat depressed when football season ends and need to find something else to latch on. Granted, the Suns are doing relatively well, I am just getting bored of basketball.

I realized how much I love some of the players on our team; like Reynolds, J-Up, Haren and Webbie. Please get us back into the post season and regain dominance over those "Doiyers"

I can't wait to go to some games. Hopefully Webb regains his Cy Young form and we can make a push at the playoffs again.

Oh..and hopefully Chris Young wakes up.

I can't wait unil baseball begins. Since the beginning of this board, every year we begin optimistic and hopefully this forum is as active as it was in 2007.

By the way, for all of you who used to post on the board prior to this one when Schilling would regularly post, does anyone know what happened to KJJK?

this board needs to be more active. I love talking baseball with you guys when there are actually people on here. There is no reason the Suns board should be more active than the D-Backs board. D-backs don't break your heart like the Suns!

I don't know about that because I still get pissed when thinking about Todd Pratt in 1999. Besides Pratt's homer, Womack dropping that fly ball cost them. If they would of pulled that game out, they would of won game 5 at home. Bad luck in 2002, losing to the Cardinals in the playoffs without an injured Gonzo and then the 2007 playoff series against the Rockies. The Diamondbacks basically gave the Rockies the first two games. Of course they have a title and the Suns don't. :)

I really believe they can win the division if their bullpen can get guys out and players like Young and Drew live up to their potential. I think CoJack will help this offense now that he is 100% healthy.

I do hope some of the people who used to post would come back to this forum. If the Diamondbacks start to win early, this board should pick up.

I am excited to have a legit #4 hitter to protect Mr. Reynolds and Upton a little bit. Sure Reynolds will get his strikeouts, but with power behind him in the lineup he will get some good pitches to hit. Couple that with Upton hopefully hitting in the 2 spot, we have a legit chance to get 3 runs to start every game. Now that is just mu guess for the 2-3-4 hitters, if anyone else has any insight please let me know.,

Upton is not going to be hitting number 2. He is securely entrenched in the 3 hole. Our 3-6 is pretty much set as:
3- Upton
4-LaRoche/Montero
5- Reynolds
6- Montero/LaRoche

I'm excited but don't have much to say. That will change once the season starts.

Games to talk about every day.

3- Upton

Agreed, having Upton batting #2 would be a complete waste of his talent. The team needs someone like Parra in the two hole because he can take pitches and put the bat on the ball allowing the leadoff hitter to see some moves from the pitcher. I would like to see Montero in the #4 spot early in the year, or possibly #5 behind Reynolds and Upton. This will put LaRoche in the six spot because he is a notoriously slow starter.

Much like the Oscars this year, I have a thought about what should happen but at the same time have one that is more likely to occur. I expect AJ to sport the following line-up on opening day:
1. Young (CF)
2. Drew (SS)
3. Upton (RF)
4. LaRoche (1B)
5. Reynolds (3B)
6. Montero ( C )
7. Jackson (LF)
8. Johnson (2B)
9. Haren (P)
This line-up would allow Hinch to follow his beloved right, left, right, etc. line-ups. In the end, this would not be too different from the optimal opening day line-up:
1. Drew (SS)
2. Parra (CF)
3. Upton (RF)
4. Montero ( C )/Reynolds (3B)
5. Reynolds (3B)/Montero ( C )
6. LaRoche (1B)
7. Jackson (LF)
8. Johnson (2B)
9. Haren (P)

For whatever reason, I have heard that Parra will have to outperform CY in Spring Training (as if last season didn’t count) to win the starting job; and that might not even be enough. The Front Office has sunk so much cash into CY (Six Years, $31 Million ending in 2013 including team option) that they don’t want but NEED him to succeed.

Lead-off hitter is still a question mark for this team and forcing CY into the role is not going to help his ‘development’ (think square block, round hole). Chris is just too much of a free swinger (See Rueben Rivera) to succeed in the lead-off position and quite possibly in the majors as well. The sooner AJ realizes that the quicker the team offense will lose an anchor. On the other hand, Drew is not a lead-off hitter either. He lacks the knowledge needed to become a good base stealer in this league. Kelly Johnson might be able to handle the lead-off spot but he needs to prove that he can recover from the injuries he experienced over the previous season that hurt his offensive production. At this moment, Stephen Drew is the best person for the lead-off job.

Overall, the team offense has been improved through some good free agent acquisitions. LaRoche provides a power threat at 1st, something the Diamondbacks desperately needed last season, and Kelly Johnson (should he return to form) is a good defensive second baseman with some pop in his bat. Whatever line-up is put out there, one thing is certain, this team has gotten rid of one thing that plagued them last season: easy outs.

As I've posted once before, I believe that Stephen Drew has the potential and intelligence to bring to the leadoff position what my all-time favorite D'back Craig Counsell did.

Not a traditional leadoff hitter (we don't have one), but one whose presence there will make every hitter in the lineup better.

And Drew's best stats have come while batting leadoff.

Chris Young's speed does not make him a leadoff hitter. Parra's RBI ability makes him a better candidate for CF. Ideally right behind Montero in the 7th spot.

Just as Montero will extend the heart of the batting order from 3-4-5 to 3-4-5-6, Parra could extend it to 7th.

I also believe that CoJack, the best natural line drive hitter on the team, could be a good, though not traditional, #2 hitter.

That leaves Johnson as a solid batter for the #8 spot.

I like it!

Upton hitting second, are you serious? That would be a huge waste. He will most likely hit third.

I am VERY excited for the season and I am looking to get a Black Upton Jersey very soon. He is the best talent we have ever had as a hitter on this team and I can't wait to see if he takes the next step and becomes a prennial all star type guy who you can build around.

I also love the rotation provided Webb stays healthy and I think secondary guys like Laroche, Reynolds, Drew, and Montero are ready to take their production up another notch. Or at least I hope.

I am even excited about Hinch because I like his overall intelligence and think the players respect him now going into the season.

My only concern is the bully and the FO actually locking up the right guys this time around. But our division is not much IMO and we should win it this year.

Or at least hope is springing eternal for me I guess.

Reynolds is going to bat 5th. That way we can go right-left-right-left through out the heart of our order. Will make it tough for opposing teams to bring in a specialist late in the game.
