Any idea what this cap hold, Cuban in his blog entry is talking about when reffering to the suns, is?

I'm just guessing here, but I think it's the minimum salary required to fill an empty roster slot. Rosters are twelve players deep, and even after signing Nash and another FA, the Suns would still only have 11 players under contract (Jackson Vroman doesn't count because he's a second-round pick).

I could be wrong, though.

I put cap space in place of cap hold the first time he mentions it, and it fit well. I then thought he just had a misprint. After that it seemed obvious he meant cap hold. I am as confused as you are. I will try and find the phrase in Larry Coon's FAQ. Someone should sticky that FAQ at the top of the site! Hint Hint! :)

Just got done doing a word search of Larry Coon's Faq and that phrase is not included in the faq.

Yes, it refers to the minimum salary being applied to empty roster spots. The Suns have only nine players under contract right now, so that's three times whatever the minimum is -- a total of about $1 million, I think.

Yep you're right. In fact I emailed Cuban and here's what he said:

"A team has to have a least 11 players signed to calculate cap room
available. If they don't, the league pretends they have a minimum salary
player in the unsigned slot.

So the suns had 10 players under contract before steve. So they have to add
whatever the minimum salary is on to the total value of the contracts signed
To calculate available cap room"
