Ok it has gotten to a point where I can't take not knowing...

What does all those signs that say "CAR" actually mean?

I believe it's due to Mark Grace. He would say CAAAR when there was a break in action (like switching pitchers, etc). Kind of a throw-back to when you were a kid playing a game in the street and a car came by, and you would yell out "CAR!" and have to stop the game.

Yes. There is a fine line to be drawn between calling the game and keeping fans interested during a long period of team ineffectiveness.

Unfortunately, Sutton and Grace stomp on that fine line.

Self-promotions. Repetition game after game. Directing every comment to each other, using their first and last names. Booooooooring.

Daron is so busy doing a "song-and-dance", he doesn't even apprise us of lineup changes, double-switches, etc.

Daron is a follower, acting up to or down to whoever is working with him. Unfortunately with Gracie, it's down.

No, but I wonder what Al McCoy does in the summer. He used to call Phoenix Giants games. I'd LOVE to have him call a few games as a guest host. Maybe if Darren gets TB or something Al could fill in.

Didja hear what Sutton said?

It's now Thursday August 7th. Daron Sutton was talking about how he and Grace will be off on Saturday. The Guv'nor and Candy Man will move over from radio to do TV play-by-play and color.

Then Sutton said (are you ready for this?) something to the effect of . . . Gracie, do you think they'll let us back after hearing professionals do the game?

As the Abbott and Costello of the D'backs might have then said:

Grace: "Well said, Daron Sutton."
Sutton: "Thank you, Mark Grace."
Grace: "You're welcome, Daron Sutton."
Sutton: "Oh, by the way, the Braves runner was just picked off second base."

Yes, fans, while their Pitcher was being picked off second base (after getting his first Major League hit), not only did our "professional" announcers not call it . . . but the cameras were on the Instant Replay equipment that they had just talked about over and over.

"Gracie, do you think they'll let us back after hearing professionals do the game?" Well said, Daron Sutton.

The camera work is starting to decline. Whoever is engineering the broadcasts needs to improve their work or maybe sit through a tape of the broadcast to see how unwatchable it's becoming. We all missed the LIVE pickoff because someone in the booth had the wrong camera active. Just poor production from top to bottom last night. Maybe it's a hidden ploy to get more people to go to the games! No, not really. Hey Abbbottttttttttttt...

One thing I have noticed, CAR was used by Gracie only once last night and has been a lot less in the last couple of weeks. Even so, Sutton needs to bring his velcro wallet here and give us all some money.

well daron sutton, remember when we would play ball in the street when we were kids?

of course mark grace

well daron sutton when ms. sutton would have to come get you for piano lessons, remember the rest of us boys would yell "CAR" to get out of the street and let ms. S take her precious daron to piano lessons, and then yell " GAME ON" when you were on your way.

that's GRe e eat, and its catching on with the fans, you're watching at home fans! Thats Big League!

i like the 2 of them, but hearing the back story on this gets old.

Sutton and Grace don't bother me so much because I don't need them to paint me a picture of the game while I'm watching it on tv.

But the camera work and overall production of games is getting to the point of being unwatchable.

The more unwatchable part of the game is the fact that every time I tuned in yesterday, guys were left on base with lame strike outs or weak grounders.

As far as Gracie and Sutton are concerned, they are two complete idiots. At times I like Grace, as he describes behind the scenes type of stuff. But "Mr. Sutton" is sounding more and more like nails on a chalkboard.

However - when the D-Backs are winning, I don't care a whole lot. Things like this get on my nerves when I consistently see Mark Reynolds strike out, Chris Young hit like a AA player, and Eric Byrnes' contract.

In today's game vs. the Braves, in the bottom of the first, I counted Mark Grace beginning his sentences with "Daron" 8 times in a five-minute period.

Isn't anyone in the organization going to tell him (or Sutton) that their jobs are to address the audience, not each other?

They are announcers. Their jobs are to communicate with us.

If they realized that, perhaps they wouldn't act sophomoric in what they say.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, I never use the expression, "I'll talk to you." And I certainly don't like hearing, "I'll talk at you."

I prefer to say, "I'll talk with you."

Unless I have a microphone in front of me. Then you are talking "to" people. That, in itself, calls for a certain decorum.

One that Sutton and Grace don't have. Saying things over and over and over like two drunks sitting at a bar, drinking (as Grace tells us) "adult beverages".

You expect that at your local pub. Not on TV where millions of dollars are being spent to get us to patronize their sponsors.

Ah, I see that Mark Grace and Daron Sutton enjoy stopping at Sonic after the game. I didn't know that they serve adult beverages.

The one on our left sort of looks like Mark Grace, don'tcha think?
