From an interview with Big Leonard Davis on AZCardinals.com:

Q: What are your thoughts on the new stadium and specifically the home-field advantage?

LD: Right now it is good to have a home field advantage, but as far as the fans being loud, they are not loud enough. I am asking the fans right now to get much louder this season, not on just third downs or after a big offensive play, you guys need to be loud on every single play.”

http://www.azcardinals.com/news/detail.php?PRKey=1154

I would have to agree with him. I thought the place could have been much louder, even on 3rd down. With so many new fans at the stadium, perhaps the video operators can get the crowd more fired up when the Cards are on D.

Also, why wasn't the "noise meter" working?

Go Cards!!!

Watching the replay I had a hard time hearing the TV announcers clearly because of the crowd noise. First time in a long time that has happened at a
Cards game.

There were a lot more females at the game and having them along probably kept a bunch of guys more subdued than normal.

But I think that once the guys get used to it they'll loosen up and get louder.

The one thing we will have to overcome is that there are also a lot more socialites at the game. Most of those types typically do not make noise they are there only because right now it is "the" place to be.

We used to get a bunch of them at UT basketball games. When ever they'd give us that "look" when we'd be yelling I'd just tell them that this ain't church and start screaming louder.

They'll get bored eventually and give their tickets to people who go because they like football and that will increase the crowd noise.

Sorry to all you LD homers out here, but this guy has showed me nothing, with the exception of once and a while. I hope he can pad his resume enough to attract another team next year and go milk it there...

I lost my voice about halfway through the 2nd half. I think it was loud when it needed to be. Was kinda tough when all the action happened on the oother side of the field from a lot of us.

Why doesn't he ask Denny Green to pipe in noise as they do in Minnesota?

That's how the Vikes rattled Jake so much that he turned the ball over 3 times in the playoff loss in 1998.

Leonard Davis isnt wrong I hate to say it. That stadium just wasnt that loud compared to open air stadiums much less domes.

Its pretty sad when the crowd doesnt start cheering on a crucial 3rd down and short or other plays until somone like Dockett on the D starts raising his hands to get the crowd going. Or the crowd has to be coerced into getting rowdy by Milligam prior to each KO etc...... I love our fans and we are diehard. But we certainly could use lessons in making that stadium as loud as it could be.

About half of the new ticket holders are not diehards though Shane. You can just tell a lot of them have never really been to a lot of football games. Once they started the wave when WE had the ball, that told me a lot of them just didn't have a clue when it comes to cheering at a football game. It'll get better if the Cards turn into winners.

Plus most the new ticket holders (I'm assuming they are) tell everyone to "sit down in front." F THAT! I'm gonna stand on big plays- 3rd downs on both sides of ball, after offensive gains, when opposing QB is audibling, etc.... As long as your not cursing and don't stand when it's unnecessary, they can stand with everyone else. I payed the same amount.

As for the crowd noise, I thought it was a decent start. The noise was great at times but can improve. Let's give it some time. Plus, bring in some stiffer competition, couple that with our hopefull winning record, and that place will be going crazy!

seattle had problems with this when they started to rebuild thier fanbase - when the new stadium openened and optimism returned there were a lot of people there on corporate seats, or to hang out in the sun on a nice fall day - a lot of down in fronts or do you have to yell so loud types

I was there for the home opener in 2002 and killed my voice for a week - half of it was yelling at the other fans around me to get of their buts during the right times during the game

as years and winning have progressed everyone is into it now - the hawks have done a lot of things to get fans involved, from honoring highschool football at the stadium, to the expo center tailgates, the 12th man flag ritual, the real life hawk and the blue thunder band - it's no longer uncool to be at a hawks game making noise - the place looks and sounds more like the kingdome of my youth than the husky stadium days of my drunk depression..............

Please...For years I've always made as much noise as I can during every defensive stand.

Only to be asked by the guy next to me at the 9'rs game "are you going to be yelling like that at every game?" and something along the lines of 'It gets old fast'

I'm going to miss yelling I enjoyed it.

On every defensive play feel free to stand and yell for God's sake. On offensive plays ****...I don't get why so many people want to make noise on offensive snaps. It should be pin-drop quiet until the catch is made or the handoff takes place...then roar as the player plays. But don't be loud when you have the ball...let them hear. When the other team has the ball, scream until your guts fall out. Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp??

I must admit, I had a Monday interview so I tried to rein in my yelling somewhat (and I felt damn bad about it too) so I only got hoarse in the 4th quarter, when usually I have no speaking voice about 4 minutes into the game.

Totally agree - yell your head off - your neighbor will A) deal with it B) join in or C) move seats next year.

Some old bag behind me crowed, "Would you sit down already...gheesh..." She has no idea what she's in for behind me.:biglaugh:

Yeah. Why do people complain about people standing up? Ryan and I went to the game. He asked me if I heard the people complaining behind us because we kept standing up. I told him, if I had heard them, I would have said something about it. It's not a Barry Manilow concert, people, it's CARDINALS FOOTBALL!!!. Stand up and cheer!

Try watching Leonard play sometime you might see something. If every player on the team dominated his opponents like BIGG did Sunday the score would have been 52-0.

Not only do some of our fans not know how to cheer they don't even recognize our best players.

As Cardianal fans (I'm assuming most are also AZ sports fans- Dbacks, Suns, Yotes...), we need to change the way we're viewed around the country. You go to Chase Field and you can hear a pin drop. I'm a Dbacks season ticket holder and if I, God forbid, yell at an opposing player the whole section looks at me like I'm crazy. Suns games are a little better but the same way. Our perception is that of cookie cutter sports fans who show up late, don't say a peep at the game, and then leave early.

We can change this NOW. Tell the babies we want to sit every play that their at a freakin NFL GAME! Tell them to go to nearly any other NFL stadium and everyone stands EVERY SINGLE PLAY. If they want to sit they can keep their butts glued to their couch at home, every Cards game is on TV this year. As I said before, as long as you aren't cussing and don't stand during unnecessary times there is nothing people can do behind you except for stand and join in. IMO, fans should stand every single play while we're on defense. That forces everyone to get very loud and back our D. These people anger me beyond belief..... Don't stop standing or yelling just cause some dork who didn't even know who the Cardinals were last year told you to stop...... Nothing will change if we don't take a stand. The players are pleading for our help. That's all I need to hear and thats all you need to tell the dipsh!ts behind you

That tactic has since been outlawed in the NFL.

The Cardinals Stadium PA announcer was on a radio program this week. He said that even the PA announcers are not allowed to show favoritism in their announcement of the game. The Cardinals PA announcer (sorry, don't remember his name) even said that his attempts to get crowd involvement with his method of announcing, "another Cardinals.... :crowd supposed to join in: FIRST DOWN" ,is pushing the envelope of what's allowed!

Btw, next game, listen for it when the Cards are on a drive and join in!

I was fine with the noise levels. No matter what rosy memories others have of games in other cities, it just isn't all yelling all the time.

I was thinking about this while watching the Washington-Minnesota game on Monday night. The situation was that Washington was ahead, but not by much, Minnesota had the ball, it's a Monday night game on opening weekend, and the crowd didn't really get loud until the situation called for it (3rd down or maybe after a big defensive play).

What did bother me about the crowd on Sunday was leaving early. With the Cards leading 34-24, too many in the crowd decided to beat the traffic out of the parking lot. I expected a mostly "stay until the end no matter what" type of crowd. Being there at the end to give a final cheer to our winning players would have been nice, but it seemed like a third of the crowd had already left.

I've been telling all my firends that was one of the best parts of the game. Every time we got a frst down, everyone who knew what was going on stood and motioned the first down sign in unison as the announcer said "first down." I love it, it's awesome
