This is an impressive group. I know quite a bit about several of these players.
DE Tyler King is a good player...was UConn's most productive and visible defensive player, even moreso than 3rd round pick LB Alfred Fincher...that is, until King suffered a season ending leg injury about three games into the season. The coaches still named him the defensive MVP. King's got size and good agility.
DT Tim Bulman is a strong, tough and aggressive DT. He can take on the double team, and will hold his ground, but he 's better firing the gaps. He's a good penetrator...and an excellent tackler. He compares somewhat to Chris Hovan, although Hovan has quicker feet, but Bulman is stronger at the point of attack.
S Ernest Shazor wreaked havoc on offenses throughout his career at Michigan. Cards offered him a 2 year deal to get him and he should make the roster. Clancy Pendergast will love moving this hard hitter around...he can play under in the cover 2, for example and will lower the boom on backs coming out of the backfield. Shazor may double as a LB on occasion. The team will like his versatility.
S Aaron Francisco is a tough, hard nosed hitter, who actually has good enough speed and range to play cover 2 safety. I think he has a very good chance to make the team, especially since the team needs cover 2 safeties.
QB Timmy Chang has a very live arm and quick release. He's a timing passer who is streaky...more often on than off. He's on the smaller side...but has active feet which enable him to shift into clear passing lanes. The Cards signed him to a two year deal...so they are quite high on him.
TE Adam Bergen is a very good athlete...he's strong, smart...and very well motivated. He has excellent hands and a good sense of how to create space for himself on the field. He's not particularly fast or quick, but his competitiveness is first-rate.
CB Lamont Reid is a solid corner who forces the run very well and gets his hands on his share of passes...but he lacks short area quickness and recovery ability. He also needs to break on balls quicker. If some of Antrel Rolle's moxie rubs off on Reid, he might make things interesting.
WR Dan Sheldon is one of the nation's premier punt returners. He's small but very quick. Watching him run at the combine...he didn't wow anyone...basically ran in the 4.5 range, but when you watch him on tape, you can see how elusive and quick he is in the open field. He also gained close to 1,000 yards as a receiver this year in the MAC...which is a strong accomplishment. I think this guy will become one of Denny Green's favorite players in camp...because Sheldon is a gutsy, no-nonsense player who makes you sit up and take notice when he touches the ball.
