Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals today announced that the team has agreed to terms with free agent linebacker Orlando Huff on a two-year contract. In accordance with club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Huff becomes the fifth unrestricted veteran free agent to join the Cardinals since the beginning of the free agency period. The team has already added offensive tackle Oliver Ross (Steelers), quarterback Kurt Warner (Giants), defensive end Chike Okeafor (Seahawks), and safety Robert Griffith (Browns).

Huff (6-2, 250) started 14 regular season games at middle linebacker for Seattle in 2004 recording 51 tackles (41 solo), 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles and 1 pass deflection. He also appeared in the Seahawks Wild Card contest vs. St. Louis, recording four tackles.

Originally a fourth-round selection (104th overall) by Seattle in the 2001 NFL Draft out of Fresno State, Huff has appeared in 55 career regular season games (23 starts) collecting 123 tackles (96 solo), 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 interception.

The 26-year old Upland, CA native originally started his collegiate career out at Eastern Arizona (Thatcher, AZ) where he earned All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and Arizona Junior College All-American first-team honors in his two seasons before transferring to Fresno State.

Can we assume this means we don't sign Hartwell?

He's a solid backup & special teams guy I think. He has started many games in the past as well.

Holy crap! D-Dogg and I both went to EAC back in the day. I think they started the football program in 1996, after we had left though. Gila Monsters has to be the coolest mascot. ;)

He started 14 games for the Hawks last year. McKinnon had more 1.5x more tackles that he did last year. Huff was seventh in tackles on the Seahawks.

The coaches must have saw something they liked in him. He fits the profile of guys Green said we would target.

Maybe this signals we dropped Hartwell because we'll try to do something with James?

I doubt they are penciling this guy in as a starter, he's going to have to battle Hayes for the starting job in camp.

Yea. I just read that, and changed my post.

I would think that Hayes beats him out for the starting job.

The more I think about this, the more I think we pulled our offer to Hartwell after Okeafor signed.

That is slightly misleading though. He may be credited for starting 14 games but he only played in 50% of the snaps becuase the Hawks were grooming Niko Koutouvides for the future and gave him a lot of snaps at MLB becuase they new Huff wasnt coming back. Which is exactly what we should have done with Hayes this year by the way.

Huff is on of those young hungry guys that are on the verge of something good, on the verge of putting it all together, the type of guy Green likes. Now will he put it all together is a different story. But at the worst if we are commited to Hayes as the starter Huff is a great backup for him, and this will push Hayes even harder to be the best.

We still need a CB and Quan will also suck up about $5 million if we re-sign him.

There is no way that we sign Hartwell now!

I think we pulled the offer off the table today. Hartwell called and probably said if you jump the contract up a little more we may think about signing with you for the tenth time and we proceeded to hang up on him and call Huff up.

Graves said we would sign one or the other, but not both.

Wasn't Darling in the same mold though?

ST guy who wanted a chance to start. Didn't have great numbers but was a well rounded player....

That's a pretty good comparison. I would say that Darling was a backup on better LB units than the Seahawks had last year however.

One thing about it. If he was starting for the Seahawks, we just weakened their team.

That's two starters we've pulled from a division rival.

I'm still bummed about Darling's int. for a touchdown return against the Rams in the opener that got called back because of a penalty. Oh well, go get 'em Huff!
