that would be incorrect....he could play OLB in a 3-4 without a problem....there are plenty of 3-4 teams that employ OLBs around 250 LBs

they're not gonna bring him in on the 4th day of FA to compete at MLB with 3 guys that we already have there....

not every OLB is like Pace or Merriman in terms of size

Can you name me 5 good 3-4 OLB's that aren't over 260lbs?

no need to name 5 when you can look at past OLBs in Pitt (Haggans 243, James Harrison 247, and Joey Porter 250)

Except that we aren't the Steelers and once leaving the Steelers their LB's traditionally struggle in other systems. I would say they are the exception and not the norm.

The best and most effective OLB's for the vast majority of the NFL are over 260lbs.

I say sign all 3 guys invited. Chillar, Odom, and Laboy. Solidify the front 7 and go into the draft not even nneded to worry about a DE/LB thus being able to concentrate on the what looks like to be a good prospect pool coming from the RB, CB, and OL positions.

Agree... it's that or keeping the Joe Tafoya's of the football world.

As long as they don't cost much, why not? I wouldn't then ignore the position, but maybe put it off a bit. As far as Tafoya, well, who's to say these guys are that much better? A step up, perhaps, but I'd still worry about just having them and Berry. Eh, like I said, if they all three come cheap, sign 'em.

It's hard to determine whether the Cards have legitimate interest in either Odom or Chillar - or whether they're trying to establish the market-value (and possibly make an offer) to Calvin Pace.

Longshot......the fact that there has been no word yet on Pace signing, it is possible that something might be in the works. I don't think I am whistling through the graveyard as Miami continues to sign players. I am suspect about the Jets and signing Faneca is a big downstroke....they truly were miserabe last year but there is a limit on how much a team will spend on F/A

I found the Cardinals usually make announcements around 5 CST.

Jeff and jholt are older than dirt. They remember stuff that pre-dates Catheginian Hannibal's trek across the Pyrenees and the Alps with war elephants when he was attacking the Roman empire. And that was BC, not AD.

Is there any news saying we're close to signing Chillar? My roommate (a Rams fan) told me that's what he heard, and he's not happy about the prospect of Chillar going to a division rival.

Yeah and I hated those elephants. They stepped on my toes twice.

I remember the draft guides saying that Chillar was best suited as a situational pass rusher and definately more of a 3-4 OLB than a 4-3 LB.

Maybe this guy could improve his play in the 3-4?

Whos our current WLB? Okeafor?

Heard he was doing good in camp last year.. But id rather have Chillar than him. Signing him means we've got more flexibility in the draft. Odom is going to ask for a pretty penny.. He's a very good player whos still got a lot of upside. Id be shocked if we signed him.
Okeafor was considered by many people to be our best defender going into last year and is perfectly suited to play OLB in the 3-4. I am not worried about him in the least. His injury last year was pretty flukish also. Aside from that, he is the epitome of durability. Chike has only missed a game or two in his entire career prior to last season.

Many people considered Chike our best defender??? Where the hell are you finding those people??

Could've sworn we had A-Dub, Dansby, Dockett and Gabe..

When I said many people, I meant many people on ESPN and in the football world, not on ASFN.
A-dub gets love in Arizona. The rest of the league views him as a great run supporter and blitzer who is liabilty in the passing game. No one was talking about Dansby or Dockett like they were Pro Bowlers prior to this season, and no one outside of Arizona even knew who Watson was.

I dont think he was our best but, like I said, many others did.

I am not against bringing him in at all. Infact, I love bringing in guys from division rivals. I was just saying that IMO Chike is a lot better than you take him for.
