The Cardinals inched closer to signing defensive tackle Alan Branch, their second-round pick, but there has been little, if any, progress in negotiations with the agent for offensive tackle Levi Brown, the fifth overall selection.

Branch's contract should come together quickly, perhaps as early as later today. A handful of players drafted around Brown came to terms today, which should give the team and his agent, Ben Dogra, some clear financial parameters.

That's not the case with Brown. No draft pick in the top 10 has signed, and no one seems anxious to reach a deal and help set the market.

The Cardinals must report to training camp in Flagstaff by 5 p.m. on Friday. They have a conditioning test on Saturday, and the first practice is Sunday afternoon.

Ah... the ol' Thursday "surprise." It would have been disasterous for the Cards to open camp with 2 picks holding out. Without a doubt Brown is not going to make it up Saturday. I just hope he's there when I go up in a couple weeks...

Also, couldn't they have found a little more dynamic picture of Alan to put up there? The best they could do was fat guy leaning on water cooler?

Cards are still doing better than the Bengals, who have signed only 1 pick so far I think

Edited make that 2

Just so we are all on the same page -- what is the true cut off time for a training camp holdout this year?

Friday reporting time?
Saturday conditioning? or
First practice on Sunday?

I guess technically its Friday, but I really dont care if he misses Saturday conditioning or not

I say Saturday.

If he misses the conditioning day he is going to have to do that anyways before he starts regular practice just like all the others. So, if he signs on Sunday(depending on the time of day of course) he will spend the whole day getting a physical and doing the conditioning test instead of practicing, and if he signs lae in the day on Sudnay he will miss Monday, and so on.

Either he is in camp in time or he isnt. Thats the only distinction in my book now a days.

Seconded. Honestly, I really don't think it makes a big difference on the field, as long as he makes it in within the first week of practices (and I said the same thing about Johnson/Pace, Fitz, Rolle, and Leinart). But for Rod Graves' record, it's that opening day of camp. After the first week we should all start getting nervous.
