TJ
Frank Kaminsky is my Hero.
TJ, I really think Canfield will make it as a mean ol' SOB.. I think Stephens-Howling will have a hard time making it with Garvin in the fold.. jmo.
Here is my OL depth by position after preseason:
T - L. Brown, Gandy (E. Brown) (Johnson) *both backups are interchangeable guards
G - Wells, Lutui (Keith)
C - Sendlein (Raiola)
My prediction has nothing to do with Canfield's talent or aggressiveness, but the fact that we have a log jam at OL. Now, there has been some speculation that he can slide over to Center, which would be nice because our options are slim. Furthermore, we are seeing a trend in Cardinals football that we have never seen before: draft picks not making the team. Why? Because we have a talented core of players already on the roster. The incoming rookies make it a challenge for the older veterans to push themselves harder to stay on the roster.
Last year, Harrington was our 6th round choice at OLB. He wasn't able to outperform any of the back up veterans, such as Berry or Haggans (granted, both are very talented in their own right). Harrington bumped around the practice squad for a while before being picked up by Cincinnati. Again, nothing to do with his abilities; just the simple fact that he was a rookie and the veterans ahead of him were not going to make it easy for him to earn a roster spot.
My guess is that Canfield will be on the PS to start the season. Where he goes from there is foggy in my crystal ball.
The only other rookie I considered putting on this list was Stephens-Howling. Against many speculation on this board, I don't think he'll be competing for KR/PR. We need depth at RB. The only reason I say that is because of the big fat question mark that hovers over Beanie Wells's head: durability. Moreover, all of our runningbacks on our roster weigh 215 lbs or greater. Howling is 180 and can be a quick change-of-pace guy like Arrington was. Perhaps he becomes a Darren Sproles type back.
