Part 7 here.

For starters, I think it is frustrating but cool that the Russian hackers haven't leaked any MB&SK emails and thus we fans are as clueless as to what the Cardinals are thinking as the media is.

Here's what we think we know: Keith Armstrong and Steve Wilks are back this week for 2nd interviews this week. Per reports, the Cardinals have interest in meeting with John DeFilippo and Brian Flores after this weekend's games.

If we include James Bettcher (whom the Cardinals know and therefore don't need to have back for a 2nd interview), the pool is down to 5 candidates. Curiously, only one if them is an offensive coach (JDF). Three are defensive coaches (Bettcher, Wilks and Flores) and one is a STs coach (Armstrong).

One would think that with the QBOF being of such high priority that MB&SK would be looking at more than one offensive coach.

Perhaps that will change if the Cardinals do what Dan Bickley is imploring them to do: meet with and "embrace" Todd Haley.

https://www.azcentral.com/story/spo...mbrace-todd-haley-next-head-coach/1046485001/

In the article, Kurt Warner heaps high praise on Haley and even goes to the extent of saying that if he could still play he would come back to play for Haley. That's pretty much a wow endorsement.

Bickley refers to the Cardinals candidates as a "shallow pool"...and does his best to disqualify Armstrong, Wilks and Flores...while rather conveniently omitting mention John DeFilippo, the only QB guru and offensive minded candidate.

While I like Bickley's argument that Haley will get after the players and hold them to higher levels of accountability, I think hiring Haley at this time would be a mistake and a sign of poor judgment.

Going from BA, who is a paragon of volatility, to Haley, who is even more so a paragon of volatility is exactly what this team and this organization needs to get away from.

This team and organization needs a newfound sense of stability.

It needs a fresh 21st century approach and a brand new face.

While Bickley writes off Brian Flores as the Patriots' "third" candidate behind Patricia and McDaniels, Brian Flores has the work ethic, the organizational and leadership skills and the integrity (innate honesty) to be a stabilizing force for years to come. He is going to lead by example and hard work---not by throwing temper tantrums or calling out the players to the media.

While Bickley never mentions John DeFilippo, Flip would quicken the pace, enthusiasm, attention to detail and energy levels in all the ways this team needs. Equally important, he is the right coach to pick and groom the QBOF. Flip is a modern day coach, not a throwback to Bill Parcells.

I think it was Ron Wolfley who said a few weeks ago that teams often like to pick a new head coach who is opposite of the departing one. There is real credence to this. This team right now needs a head coach who will lift their spirits, inspire new levels of confidence and generate a burst of excitement. What this this team really needs are sparkplugs and a brand new muffler.

- I think the reason why teams hire coaches with opposite personalities re their predecessors is because the predecessor got fired. Not so with BA.

- I wonder if Bick's favoritism re Haley might stem from an earlier friendship they had during Haley's previous stint with AZ.

This board will be lit af when Flores is the head coach and trades Patrick Peterson to send a message to locker room before signing Malcolm Butler for a 5 year 90 million dollar deal.

I have no idea what this team really needs. They have a ton of injuries and still finish 8-8 (and don't tell me that is due to them having an easy schedule because it was hard for me to look at the whole NFL and come up with a difficult one in the league's current state of mediocrity) and yet we see reoccurring sloppy play which carried over from last year which suggest significant players under Arians got comfortable removed from the real grinders like Palmer and Chandler J. I think they need a swift kick in the ass which covers all the bases, it's a return of the newly hired Arians in case they are lacking and it's also the status quo if Arians actually had not tapered off with his hard nosed approach and why they where able to get those wins with a depleted roster. I think this team needs a Wilks or Armstrong style coach, and not some quiet coach which will allow some players to become complacent. These guys need a brash/harsh coach because that seems to work best in our environment when the coach is legit and not bias towards certain players. If BA was failing despite injuries, it might have been his health and developed favoritism... I say we rebuild the beast with a younger aggressive version of Arians because that apparently works

I don't like Armstrong but feel that Wilks could be an interesting hire. Jus wonder who he would bring in as OC & QB coaches.

Shula and Dorsey. Coached with Wilks in Carolina. Familiarity.

I think MB is doing just what he said he was going to do and take his time making a decision on the next head coach. Also I believe MB is picking as many coaches brains as he can and learning from them. MB is a very smart man. Anyone that has talked with him even briefly can tell that. I for one am really happy to have him as an owner and I fully believe he will do the best he can for this team.

Mitch, the above is a quote from your first post. If the teams win that DeFilippo and Flores are on, can the Cards still interview them, or will they have to wait until after the SB?

Win or lose, gimpy, the Cardinals will be able to interview DeFilippo and Flores next week, because they have already had first interviews with them.

For the Titans, they can't interview any coaches on the two winning teams this weekend because they have not had fist interviews with them when they could have a couple weeks ago.

If the Eagles and Patriots win this weekend, the Cardinals can interview JDF and BF this week, but they wouldn't be able to sign one of them officially until after the Super Bowl.

If the Eagles and Patriots lose, the Cardinals can sign JFD or BF asap.

Answer: "According to NFL rules, coaches still in the playoffs who have interviewed with a team once are not allowed to interview a second time until the week after the championship games. Those second interviews can be conducted from Jan. 22-28. However, once a coach's season is over, he is free to interview with a team again ..."

Considering how the Cards’ receivers regressed this year (except Fitz) this can hardly be a major loss. Then there’s Williams’ lack of development.

It’s going to be either DeFilippo or Flores, & I’m leaning more towards DeFilippo. I just feel like if Wilks was their #1 candidate, he would’ve been hired already.
