I know nothing about this hire, except that he was DB coach for the Ravens when they won their SB. That is enough for me. Their defense was stingy, nasty, and played with purpose. We could use some of that in our DB's

So will we expect DRC to be shutting down WRs like Chris McAlister next year? :)

They also had one of the best shut down corners in recent history on the team in Chris McAllister.

Can this new guy teach our DBs to tackle ball carriers instead of diving into the ground grasping at air?

I believe that is EXACTLY what he will be teaching our DB's. This hire seems to be just what we have been lacking in our secondary all along. These guys are not without talent, but they HAVE been without great teaching, or demanding that they can continue on without paying attention to details that this coach will be pointing out. This guy is vocal, and he is one who loves to play Man-up coverage, and busting the receiver at the line of scrimmage, and covering tightly, AND most of all, competing for the ball like it belongs to them. He WILL get the DB's attention, and they WILL learn from him, or they will be gone.

We have likely seen the last of the soft prevent defenses late in games when we have the lead. That is not Hendersons game, and I doubt that it will be Davis' game from here on out either. This just might be the best signing we could have made in order to rebuild the defense. My hat is off to Whiz AND Graves on this one. Can you imagine, Ware learning to tackle, Rolle learning where he is supposed to be each play, and DRC and Toler crowding the line of scrimmage. I am already salivating.

His stock has dropped IMO because they changed the rules.

Playing man now takes mad coverage skills, unless he's adapted we're not going to be the Ravens defense in any shape or form just because he was there prior to the above rule change.

DRC isn't big enough to chuck anyone at the line and without that he's going to struggle in man coverage.

I wish I was optimistic about this hire but I'm not, hope I'm wrong.

AND----------I believe that is exactly what you will see DRC and Toler turn into. I also think you will see Ware learn to tackle, and (if we can get Rolle back), I think you will see him finally (GET IT), as I believe he will be coached up to know where he is to be on any given play, instead of freelancing all over the secondary. This guy WILL get the attention of our secondary, so that Adrian Wilson can again be freed up to work into Davis' scheme.

Why would DRC need to play a physical style of man coverage? That's not his game. Instead DRC has got great speed and good technique, along with unbelieveable jump to close on the ball. He can run with anyone. There is more than one way to play man coverage; it's the guys that don't have DRC skills that depend upon jamming receivers at the line.

I like the hire, but I don't see a single position coach being the thing that turns the defense around.

It's a good move in the right direction, but the Messiah is not going to come in the form of a DB coach.

It is not that DRC NEEDS to jam his receiver at the LOS in order to play 'man' on him---------it is that doing so disrupts the ENTIRE play. This causes the QB to find that one, (or more), of his receivers is late in the pattern, and disrupts the play and causes frustration for the QB in his reads and timing. It throws off the whole system for that play, and if kept up, can lead to the QB hollering at his WR's in the huddle and causing a complete breakdown in cohesiveness. It is just another way of keeping a WR from being effective.
