Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has hired Larry Brooks as defensive line coach.

A 20-year coaching veteran, Brooks spent the last two years as the defensive line coach for the Detroit Lions. Under Brooks tutelage, Lions DT Shaun Rogers earned his first career Pro Bowl invitation and the Lions defensive line nearly doubled their sack output from 2003 (17.5) to 2004 (30.5).

Prior to joining the Lions, Brooks coached the Chicago Bears defensive line in 2003 after serving nine years as the defensive line coach for Mike Holmgren with the Green Bay Packers (1994-98 and Seattle Seahawks (1999-02).

From 1972-82, Brooks was a standout defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams and was named to five consecutive Pro Bowls (1976-80) and was named All-Pro from 1977-79. His first coaching job came with the Rams, where he served as the assistant defensive line coach from 1983-90.

Detroit's strength was their defensive line, and I'm sure that the coaching was a big reason for it. I hope he can take our D-line to the next level!

I am very pleased that Green et al have moved as quick as they have. With all the HC positions still up for grabs, it might have gotten very dicey as to who we might have been able to get once HC decisions were made.

This augers well going forward.

Good point on the salaries, no way they would take just any low ball offers.

I think there is another reason we are attractive though, I think people like them can see that we aren't that far away and that they can work here a while.

I wonder how many of them coached against us this season?

Excellent point regarding getting ready for the draft, FA etc. These guys will have enough time to study film and to plan wisely for both.

I think it also shows that the Job security concern was either not that huge of an issue or these guys really believe this team is close to winning next year.

Also remember the season ended only 5 days ago!! WOW!

Even though the Cards were 5-11 this year. I think we are an attractive team to come to.

-New Stadium
-New digs (well almost new)
-Team plays with spirit
-Denny Green has a rep that seems to attract winners (even though he hasn't won yet with the Cards)
-some marquee players on both sides of the ball that will make the coaches jobs easier

and probably more.

Nice surprise hire. Forgot that we were also looking for a defensive line coach. I think he will gain respect from the players being an all pro and also with plenty of coaching experience. With Detroit also looking for a new head coach, I'm sure he felt that its better to have a job in hand than go through a period of uncertainty.

IMO we have upgraded all three coaching positions.

Larry Brooks made Dan "Big Daddy" Wilkinson into a quality DT this year. If he can do that, he must be a heck of a coach.

Apparently the Cards weren't interesting in spending money until they actually made it into the stadium? I thought last year was a money spender.
