Cardinals | Watching McKinnon
Sat, 20 Aug 2005 08:21:24 -0700 KFFL

Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports the Arizona Cardinals are keeping an eye on LB Ronald McKinnon and his battle for a roster spot with the New Orleans. If he is released, the Cardinals would be interested in re-signing him.

Allways loved the heart of McKinnon, and he was a decent starter, would be great to have him back on the team, question is how much does he have left in the tank?

If we are going to have to go back to McKinnon in the middle, it puts more of a worry in my head about our ability to stop the run up the middle.

I cant believe that Mr McKinnon would be interested in playing for Green. Not after the way he was treated at the end of last season.
IMHO Coach Green not only dissed MCKinnon and his work ethic but also dissed the fans for not recognizing one of the few bright spots on the roster for the last several years.
I know its old news and I should let it be, maybe this vent will help.

I'd much rather take a chance on a young talent then bring McKinnon back

Thats right. Heaven forbid anyone disagree with you!

And heaven forbid you leave one of his posts unquoted....and without comment.

McKinnon sucked his past 2 years here, he deserved to be kicked away, it's a business. Who cares if he was the nicest guy in the world. Great, give him a front office job or a coaching job, but keep him off the field.

I know he was a fan favorite, but how did he get dissed? His work ethic? All I remember was he got benched for a younger player. Was there more to this? I saw no public comments bad mouthing McKinnon. He lost his starting spot and played less and less as a rising player played more and more.

The problem is Mitchell has been so bad in camp they don't want to play him at all. It's still early but Green is very pissed off at Mitchell's "lack of toughness".

I'm almost positive the only reason he is being looked at is depth behind Darling now that he has assumed the MLB starter role. Like Skkorp said, Mitchell's progress has been less than expected.

Not trying to throw this thread off on a tangent, but I have the links saved to all of the draft picks videos. I saw in Blackstock a guy who was flying all over the field with Dansby-like speed and tenacity.

I haven't said anything before, but I saw NOTHING in Mitchell that impressed me. I saw a guy who was hesitant, and a step slow.

I agree that the Cards coaches probably aren't thinking right now that he is ready to start if Darling goes down, hence the Ronnie Mac look.

I would take Towns over McKinnon any day.

Ditto.

I am/have been stoked about his signing.

Just haven't been able to wrap my brain around why the front office thinks even MORE depth is necessary. (i.e. McKinnon)

Here is the bottom line IMO: Hayes is out likely until the Tennessee (Oct 23) or the Dallas game (Oct 30). So we need depth until then. Darling is the replacement starter and Towns is the backup. Mitchell goes to the PS this year. Too assume otherwise is foolhardy. He is a project for this year.

If for whatever reason we need to play around further, we have Huff as an additional MLB if necessary.....Darling or Blackstock can go outside as W/OLB.

Bottom line......McKinnon is not coming back......anyone other than Jurecki who believes that the Cardinals would entertain him again doesn't understand how Green thinks.

Birth to 32, Phoenix. Now, enemy territory.
but how did he get dissed?
In his final game as a Cardinal, at home, he didn't get in for a single play. He felt that he should have at least had the chance to run out on the field to wave to the fans and maybe receive some applause from said fans who appreciated his play over the years. Personally, I think it would have been the right thing to do.

I waved at him that day and he didn't wave back. True story. I can't tell you if I felt "dissed", because I'm too much of a man to be in touch with my feelings.
