Cardinals | L. Davis on the trade block
Sun, 15 Oct 2006 10:17:42 -0700

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Arizona Cardinals OT Leonard Davis is available at the trade deadline. Davis has fallen out of favor with head coach Dennis Green and the team is reportedly asking for "a pick or a player," according to an NFC general manager. The general manager added it appears the team would like to trade him "for pretty much anything, they seemed like they were just trying to unload him."

You can not be serious. Move him to gaurd before you just let him walk or trade him for a crap pick. This is complete B.S. if money is the only issue, you need to pay him! What else are we going to use the cap for. Who cares if he is overpaid, move him to gaurd an then you are paying for a pro-bowl OL. Don't just let him walk when that is the weakest part of the team. How can the cards actually spin this?

Stop me if you've heard this before, but are we ever going to have a top 10 draft pick that we don't lose for near nothing who goes on to play somewhere else and has a pretty good career? I know nothing has happened with LD yet, but I can just feel it. Thomas Jones, Simeon Rice, Garrison Hearst, etc. Ah screw it, I can't do this today. Sorry for :deadhorse2:

This has to be a joke! You basically have no leverage at all?

keep in mind we don't actually have a "general manager" so it makes you wonder where Glazer heard this ?

Wasn't he already tried at right guard when he first came into the league? Apparently it wasn't a resounding success. They figured for all that money he's making, let him earn it at left tackle. Apparently that experiment hasn't gone too well either.

I say unload him. He's obviously been biding his time until his contract is up to get outta dodge city (can you say underachiever?).

LD is not being moved to guard either now or in the future wherever he ends up playing. Why would he voluntarily give up millions this offseason by showcasing himself as a guard instead of a tackle?

Jones wasn't worth much when they traded him. Rice, they had already franchised and I believe based on the kind of production they got out of him in his franchised year that franchising him again wasn't worth it. My guess is nobody would trade for him since they knew the Cards were gonna have to let him go anyway.

Who cares what they get for him? Let's not pretend he has had any impact since he was drafted. Potential is one thing, reality is another. If he was benched there would be little if any difference, except you could probably cross off three or four false starts each week. Time to get real people. You act as if they are shopping Q or Fitz.

Leonard Davis = Ruben Brown

Large men who aren't quick enough for tackle but can dominate at guard

sOME PEOPLE JUST DONT GET IT. (Sorry)

As bad as some people think he is. He still is the best Olinemen we have. We need to Improve the line not make moves to downgrade it.

Move him to guard where he belongs. He is 370lbs he just cant keep up with speed guys on the outside. Get him inside durring the bye week and find out his true value before he becomes a freeagent.

We took the first step to improving that line by benching Step. Wait till the bye week then swap Davis & Wells positions, and let the line play out.

What if he refuses to move to gaurd ?

For all we know the coaches have been trying to make this move already ?

If he stays at LT his feels he will make more in FA and if we line him up at LG and he is pissed do you think he will put the effort out ? No, he agent will just blame poor lay on the Cardinals for switching him around and for being the Cardinals. Many would believe that as well, I mean the reason he is not a pro bolwer is obviousl the fault of the team.

LD is gunna cash in what ever position he plays. A move to guard could make him more money if he plays much better.

To think he is refusing to move is crazy. Remember the Cardinals have final say if he leaves or not with the Franchise tag available...

He is quoting his source which is an NFC General Manager.

Doh, that makes sense now.

FYI the Porter deal is off, the Raiders suspended Porter on Saturday for 4 games without pay for conduct detrimental to the team. NObody knows what he did, 2 days ago Shell said Porter was doing everythign they asked of him he wasn't playing because of performance, not attitude, now they suspend him. He'll protest to the players union for sure but no way he's traded now.

Bingo. I 100% believe Nidan hit the nail on the head here.

Green: "You're not a good tackle, you've proven that, we're moving you to guard where you'll dominate again & help the team win games blowing open holes for James & Arrington."

Davis: "No. I'm in a contract year, and tackles make more than guards. I won't move. F the team."

Get whatever you can for this guy if this is the case, he won't be here next year and he's not helping us win games now.

I don't know. Kendall refused to move from C to G, and that's why Green let him go.

Maybe Loney believes that the biggest problem with the line is their "leader"? Not talentwise, but attitude and work-wise?

IMHO perhaps Bigs ambivilance started when he moved from G to tackle. THis attitude thing seems to have been going on for awhile. Correct me if Im wrong, but his second season was his best at LG with some mention of Pro Bowl.
I see him in Dallas next year playing LG ala Larry allen for 6 to 7 mil ayear. Again IMO he will not chase the money at LT but rather take top G money to play where he is comfortable.

I thought last year, besides the false start problem, was his best. He was an alternate for the Pro Bowl last year, I believe he started at RT his second season. He's missed about as many blocks in five games this year, as he did in about 10 last year.

Way too much speculation here. First of all LD couldn't refuse to play guard. The team could suspend him without pay.
Second of all , we don't know if was EVER asked to move to guard and knowing this coaching has even given it a thought.
Third, why after 2 1/2 years of the Green era has the move not even been tried? Not even in an exhibition game.
I, for one believe a move inside would be benificial to both the team and the player. I also believe that management is more than likely stuck on "He's the highest paid Lineman , therefore he must be our LT" syndrome.
And finally the last and biggest problem.....who the hell do we then put at LT?

Can you imagine the Cardinals putting out the word that LD is available and telling other GM's we'll take anything to unload him?
Absurd.

Big Deal I think you are spot on. Get rid of our best OL?? We already have the worst Ol in the NFL and now want to make it even worse? Our management team must be clearly nuts. Trade him for another player of equal value yes but for some future draft pick???? This is why we are consistently one of the worst teams in the NFL. They guy will end up an all pro guard IMHO for someone.
