Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald wants to stay
Wed, 22 Dec 2010 20:07:20 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald said he wants to stay with the team after his contract is up next season, according to The Associated Press. "I want to stay here. I enjoy playing for coach (Ken) Whisenhunt. I enjoy working for the Bidwills," Fitzgerald said. "They've always treated me good since I first got here. This is all I know. I can't ever say that I want to go anywhere else."

I'll take Fitz's word over press rumors. He's a pretty down to earth guy. Not the type to flat out lie.

We should pay the man and try and have him retire as a Cardinal. When his bust is placed in Canton, I don't want to see another team attached to Larry. Also considering we missed out on Rivers and Roethlisberger to get him, we BETTER keep him!

They will pay him and he will remain a Cardinal. He really is the face of the organization. They will focus on improving the qb position for sure in the off season which will make Fitz happy. The FO knows they blew it this year.

Exactly what I think.

I'm sure he and his agent (and probably his dad) are already discussing all of this and have their numbers in their heads. Discussions with the FO will include the QB situation.

i hope Fitz holds the cards hostage and tells them if they don't get a veteran QB he will ask for a trade and leave. that might get something going. if i were Fitz thats what i would do, another year like this one is totally unacceptable.

And this is where front office ineptitude might change his mind. Remember when Warner was a free agent? You'd think it was a no brainer to resign him, right? Well, it took him going to SF to get the Cardinals to offer him something that didn't insult his intelligence. I'm afraid the Cards might low ball Fitz if he's forced to test the market. The best case scenario is if the Cards extend his contract before his current one runs out and this they need to do.

Most players make these kind of statements. They don't mean anything in fact they'll keep saying this stuff as their walking out the door. They will not be honest and say how they really feel because they don't want any potential suitors to be turned off because they are not appearing to be a team player. I'm not saying that Larry is not being truthful, it's just that no one ever knows the real story and the statements just don't matter until a contract is signed.

I would be willing to bet he has said something to the right people about getting a QB already.

In statments in the past he has always remained true to the Cardinals. He has had up till now been one of the top recievers in the NFL. IMO opinion Larry will remain a Cardinals unless he is truly low balled. MB wil see to that, as he remains bent on winning a chamionship. I still believe in coach dispite some of the moves that were made this year. The team would take a big hit at the gate IMO if we lost Larry.

Larry more than likely will have talks about the QB situation after he makes his annual trek around the world. I suspect that before or during training camp, will tell us much more about where the 2011 team is headed. I for one can't imagine the Cards without Larry. Then again I thought I would never imagine the Cards without Q! Q couldn't be replaced and if Larry should bolt he would be even harder.

I agree we need to sign Fitz to a contract extension before training camp starts. Let's get an offensive and defensive cordinator in here.

We'll need a new CBA first to see what we can sign him with.

The whole Fitz "can't be franchised" is a major fiasco & whomever (cough, cough Rod Graves) should have already been shown the door by the ownership!!! Good teams never put their franchises in a position that it's best player can literally walk for nothing.

Stupid, stupid Cardinals!!! :bang::bang::bang:

Do you think FOR ONE MOMENT that the agreement to not tag Fitz in future wasn't agreed to IN ADVANCE by the Bidwill's?

Chances are that if they hadn't agreed to drop the future franchise tag, Fitz would already be gone.

The team is free to trade him while he's still under contract, and it may come to that.

There are those who say, that in the end it's all about the $$$, but I doubt that Fitz is going to waste a potential HOF career with a team that doesn't settle in QB problems.

If the Cards want to have an opportunity (not a guarantee) to keep him, then they have this offseason to find a serviceable vet QB, and invest in a QB of the future through this year's draft. IMO

no they're not. they gave up that right in that horrific negotiation as well, giving him a no-trade clause to go along with a no franchise tag clause.

You're right, (according to the news report on the day of signing) which simply means that he'd have to approve any move out of the desert. Don't think that would significantly diminish the number of team's interested that, in turn, would be acceptable landing sites for Fitz.

My point remains. If we don't settle the interim vet and QBOF in this offseason... He is gone!

I believe that clause was niched by the NFL. They didn't allow it because it violated the collective barginning agreement.

Dude just go cheer for the Jets. Everything you write is so miserable and heavy handed. Yes its a bad season - but you flip every topic into some sort of bash thread i.e. this very thread. Your not even a dark sider....you are a black hole of negativity.

I see you came on in 2005 but only have 400 posts. I guarantee the last 100 have been this past month and all about how "angry" you are. I am real glad you decided to come back and post the drivel you do. :sarcasm:

Read More Post Less. I am about one more post like this to putting you on ignore with campos.

To everyone else.....Merry Christmas Eve!

This I agree with. Graves is an idiot. The franchise tag is the one bit of recourse the teams have over players. The only reason Larry asks for this type of thing is to test Free Agency. Be forewarned.
